Poll question: Dear God. A good friend just confessed that
He likes Spam. Not electronic junkmail.

But this stuff.

Are there more of his type around than I'd imagined?

Show your cards, folks. You like Spam?

(Damn, after 18 years, you'd think you know a person....)

1. it's popular in hawaii
really popular. you can get spam sushi everywhere. I've never had spam and at this point I'm not going to start, but I think the trick is to prepare it properly. It's no weirder than tofu (of course, i don't like tofu)

with a mornay sauce garnished with truffle pâté, brandy and with a fried egg on top and Spam.

14. I'll have some without so much Spam in it
A bit off topic, but when I was in London on my first visit in '86 I had tea in a shop that looked JUST like the one in the Spam-Spam-Spam sketch. No Vikings, though the waitress did look a bit like Terry Jones.

3. I won't eat it straight outta the can, but it's pretty good fried up some,
especially with eggs.
Spam, spam, spam spam, etc.

There is even a Spam museum in Austin, MN, home of the stuff...

15. Ayup! Fried, mmm hmmm. Lips, peckers & intestints. Yessir.
I know it was potted beef, but that line from Slingblade reminded me of the time I found short hairs in Spam once.

28. *lol* I loved that movie...I have not had your unfortunate experience with
the short hairs, but I guess that's why I always cook it well, to at least sterilize any foreign objects that may have found their way in there, hee hee!

7. Yeah, but the sp stands for
spoiled...ham. It's something even my cats won't eat. If my cats don't want it, it's definitely not fit for human consumption.

20. Cats don't eat ham - too much salt
I wouldn't feed real ham to a cat.

the sp stands for shoulder pork.

I know it's fun to poke fun at spam but, actually, as canned ham goes, it's not half bad.

short for spoiled ham. I grew up on that shit, and still hate it to this day.

8. My husband used to love spam
Hmm...maybe I shouldn't be so surprised that he doesn't care about eating food that's been in a fridge w/o power to it for 13 hours. If he'll eat spam, he'll eat anything.

17. OK, so it's not gourmet food.
But it also is not scrapple or head cheese, either. There are worse things you can eat. And it does taste better than Vienna sausage!

26. Ah yup
If, the first thing in the morning, you can eat pig's ass, avian menstrual fluid and the burnt result of bacteria farts, SPAM should be a breeze.

19. When I was a kid, my Father wouldn't allow Spam in the house.
He told my Mom, "I ate enough of that sh*t in the Pacific during the war".

I bought Spam once for Mr. Wonderful. He had it a lot as a kid in Ireland growing up. Just the smell of the stuff when I opened the can was enough for me. I banned that crap as well from our home.

Spam and liver are #1 and #2 on my list of icky, icky foods. YUCK....

23. Soviet anecdote concerning spam...
There's a telling Soviet anecdote concerning spam that was shipped in from the U.S. during the lend lease program in World War II.

Just after the fall of Berlin, Gen. Zhukov was asked what was *the* primary factor in the Allies victory. Gen. Z., with all seriousness said, "Our victory was bought by American spam and paid for by Russian blood."

Oh... and to answer your question-- I do like spam. Fried w/ just a touch of A-1 on toasted white w/ lettuce and mayo. Mmmmmmm.
