For all the criticism for Paris Hilton we give, she deserves kudo for this
Last night I'm flipping through the channels and happened upon "The Simple Life" - that show with the dumb premise of putting Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton (two very uber rich girls) in regular day situations and see how they react.

I've never really watch the show before but last night they had Paris Hilton at a wedding in which I guess she ended up being the maid of honor or something. But it turns out it was a Lesbian wedding she was attending. And for all the crap we give Paris, last night she did something that even shocked me. She gave a little speech at the wedding for the couple and basically said about how important this marriage was to them and how if more people could see how in love this couple was perhaps they'd stop being so critical about same-sex weddings. (I'm paraphrasing here).

It was nice to see that Paris used her show to showcase same-sex weddings and point out how homophobic some people tend to be.

5. guilty of that but also cynical
I'd have more respect for her if I didn't suspect she treated the couple like an accessory. It's hip and cool to have lesbian friends. Of course since I didn't see the show I might not know what I'm talking about.

4. I know almost nothing about Ms. Hilton other than how she looks...
...but if she did this, she did a very fine thing.

It is an incredible disgrace that two people who love each other cannot marry.

6. I remember reading that she made some homophobic remarks a couple of
years ago, and the gay community in west Hollywood made an uproar about it, then by the time of their parade she was quoted as saying that they are sexy and "they're hot". I don't know what the original remarks she made were, but she changed her position in a big hurry.

17. People her age make mistakes and grow out of them
Maybe that's all that happened. People say bad things, then understand why they are bad and learn from it.

9. "The Simple Life" is 100% scripted.
Everything is staged. Both Hilton and Richie have said this.

:hi:

20. The first season of it had some genuine charm, mainly due to the family
that they stayed with, and how they dealt with P&N, and the people in the town (somewhere in Arkansas, I can't remember the name of the town.) The people in that season and their reactions to P&N were a lot of fun to watch. Ever since then they have been milking it for whatever they can get, trying to re-create the charm of the first season but I lost interest quickly in the second season.

12. I saw this episode too
as embarrassed as I am to admit it. I know Paris and Nicole had put on two separate weddings for the ladies (Paris had a traditional one and Nicole had a wacky one) I can't remember which one did it but she called the White House and invited George Bush to attend and even had a place setting for him if he decided to show up...lol

13. Never thought much of her one way or the other.... BUT THEN...
I held her interviewed and she talked about when those.... ahmmm personal films were released by her ex.
She obviously found it painful to talk about but.... NOT FOR HERSELF.... but for the way it made her parents feel.
Now I feel bad for her and wish they'd leave the poor kid alone.

If my privacy was invaded to the degree that hers has been, I'd be insane with anger.

14. Paris isn't so bad, but I sure wish she'd eventually learn
that the money isn't oozing out of the pores of everyone in the world. She'll grow up, I think and turn into a good young woman. Looks like if she feels that way and has something intelligent to say about gay marriage, she is well on her way. I'll take back knocking her in the past if she keeps that up. Good girl, Paris. You earned my respect for that.
