Hippies check in

I am often called a hippie in my conservative hometown for my progressive politics and free-spirited attitude. I like to wear cork sandals, hemp, 60's Rock t-shirts, listen to 60's rock, and smoke a little weed. Actually I haven't smoked in over a year.

I think being a hippie is having a free-spirited attitude and an open mind. nothing to do with drugs or long hair necessarily.

14. I was born too late ...

I was born in 1964, and come from a relatively conserviative background (family farmers). When I left the nest, I was told by many people that I was born about 10 years too late.

I was born 20 years too late...

I'm a semi-hippy. How hippy I look varies depending on whether I'm wearing a hat and a long skirt or not. But I buy a lot of hemp (wearble and smokable ;) ), organic, and believe in many of the same things the hippy movement stood for.

I have been a hippie at heart since age 16. About age 30, friend "A" became aware that friend "B" and I had both started collecting curio and relic firearms, mostly old military rifles.

Friend "A" thought this seemed odd, and exclaimed "But I thought we were hippies!"

Friend "B" replied without hesitation "We're hippies with guns!"

I have psoriasis and shaving irritates it, so I take a break from it. Oh, and yes, I guess you could call me a hippie for my radical left-wing political views and my rather relaxed clothing style.
