After further review -My child *IS* smarter than yours
I got this e-mail from my wife this morning.

Josie's teacher talked to me this morning about how well Josie is doing. She said that she thinks she is unusually smart and that continue doing whatever we are doing. She said she asked Josie to find her a red ball and Josie went to the toys and brought a red ball back to her. She told her to find the yellow ball but it was not out. She said Josie looked all over the floor and then did that shrug as if to say I don't see one. She said identifying colors was way advanced.:):):):)

Josie will have her FIRST birthday in two weeks.

3. But Josie is a baby.
If you left her alone in the woods for a week, she would almost definitely starve or be eaten by something larger and fiercer.

Score one for Coyotes.

22. Is it just me......
Or does that child look like she's sneaking up on somebody? That child isn't smart. She's diabiolical!!!!! Leave the house, seek shelter, don't look back. Otherwise, she'll have your head on a pike by the time you take the training wheels off.

thighs, it means she is healthy and oh so pinchable. She's got the kind of cheeks that call out for pinching, too!!

you know...just a little tweak, enough so she giggles and then I know I have made a friend!!

thanks for sharing the pics. you have a lovely child.

7. Cool! With shock collars you could teach her to roll over and beg.

Just teasing, UP, that does sound you've got a bright one. Mine wouldn't be able to do that at 13. Not that she doesn't know the color red, just that she wouldn't get off the couch and pick up anything for anyone!

11. Timeless Parenting Maxim: My child is in the 90th percentile for ________
(fill in the blank).

It's a seemingly universal with everyone I know who has children:

Their child is in the "upper whatever percentile" for everything - signs of intelligence, height, weight, motor skills/dexterity, etc. In fact, since every single infant and child I know is such a Super Baby, I am expecting great things from them as adults!

I often think the "Who's Who" people have an infant-coddling division!

17. LOL I know
I had one friend who had all his kids percentiles memorized. That was always the first thing you heard.

BTW Josie got a 9 on the initial APGAR and a 10 on the three minute one.

Just saying.

27. Time to get our the integration flash cards.
Certainly the age of one is not to early for a child to become familiar with simple integrals. This way you can hope that before entering school, your child will be among those who can integrate functions like x2sinx dx by parts in her head, without using pencil and paper. I thought my kid was smart when he was one, and ignored my opportunity to do the same.

I really regret my inattention.

My oldest kid is 11 now, and he is depressingly normal. The same sad state of affairs seems to be happening with my seven year old. I have explained to him stellar evolution along the main sequence and he still doesn't seem to get it. I feel like a failure.

Can you imagine just how cute it would be to hear your infant coo, "Develop beam and shear stress."?
