1. I hope Jon doesn't win
I could actually see him making it to the top 2, though. He'd be a fairly easy person to beat in a final vote. On the other hand, someone like Lill might be more difficult to beat.

I did not like the idea of bringing 2 players back into the game midway.

I think Sandra or Darrah deserve to win the game. I suspect one of them will.

46. Jon would have destroyed her, as well
Remember, that little straw poll Jeff did last night was after everyone saw Jon's confessionals, knew about the Lie, everything.

Had Jon had a chance to answer questions, etc., he'd have won 6-1, just like Sandra did.

Lil may have turned in the worst Final TC performance of all seven seasons, worse than KimJ from Africa and Matt from the Amazon. Absolutely horrible performance, whiny, rambling, insulting to the jury, just pathetic.

And I really hope Jon makes All Star.

Y'all have to admit, that play where he got Lil and Darrah going after each other was just brilliant. He was absolutely gone at F4 before he pulled that off.

42. I agree - one of the best seasons in ages
someone posted a link to what they believe is the possible all-star team and they barely had anyone from season 4 or 5 (Which I believe were the worse 2 seasons of Survivor).

They did really good this year. The pirate season was a blast, they had a great mix of contestants and I loved the idea of the Outcasts making a comeback.

CBS is raking in the bucks with this one!!!

47. Exactly how I felt too
I've watched Survivor since the first season. The only winner, until Sandra, that I agreed with, was Ethan. Like Sandra, there was no bullshit about him, and if Lil had taken Jon to the final two, I wouldn't have watched the final because either one of them winning would have turned my stomach.
Im so glad Lil got rid of Jon, and even more glad that Lil didn't win the final. About half way through this season I really started to believe that Lil was using her whiny, sappy act as a tool, which, when it came to the final two, is what made her more deceptive than Sandra and ultimately undeserving of the $$. She just got on my very last nerve.
Go Sandra!!! :bounce:
Can't wait to see the all-star version!

You do realise that Jon is in the all star edition, right?

BTW, we're doing a little poll on alt.tv.survivor right now, and so far, Ethan is coming in either last or next to last, least deserving winner. Heck, Vecepia is getting more respect than him.

Jon is tied with RobC so far for most deserving non-winner. That guy played the game beautifully.

To my mind, the most deserving winners have been Richard and Brian, with the rest, in order, being Sandra, Vecepia, Tina, Jenna, and Ethan.

52. Deserving?
Yeah, I've heard Jon is in the all-star...:puke: Still looking forward to it though.

As for Ethan coming in last or next to last....the people I think are most deserving are the ones that got there without completely selling their souls to do it. Granted theres a certain amount of gamesmanship in every Survivor season, but comparatively speaking, IMO, Sandra and Ethan have been the two who have managed to keep their dignity intact more than the other winners.
Sure, if the jury makes their choice based on pure strategy and ruthlessness, Jon probably should have won and Richard was the rightful winner of the first season. If I were a member of the jury, though, I would consider it a much larger achievement to get to the final two by being less ruthless and scheming than all the others.

53. Agree...
Ethan was my favorite winner, I like it when nice people who don't screw everyone else win. Those who play the game without compromising themselves that is the hardest way to win and the most deserving, anyone can lie and cheat to win, it takes a real player to remain decent and win.

If I could win money at poker without ever bluffing, but it ain't gonna happen.

It takes a real player to do whatever you have to. You're either there to win, or you're there to lose. As long as you're not breaking the rules, it's all good.

56. Sorry about that
You think being carried to the finals is more worthy than actually working your way there?

The schemers like Jon and Rich and Brian are the ones who get people to the Final Three. The key is whether they can finish it off. Rich and Brian could, Jon couldn't. That makes him second echelon of best Survivor players, not first.

But Ethan did basically nothing to win, that I can tell. Lex was the leader of that alliance, Ethan was just along for the ride. Had Lex not caught dysentery, he wins.

As for dignity, I'd say that Sandra's constant tantrums, sabotaging the tribe's equipment, tossing the fish and letting her "ally" take the blame for it, don't add up to much on the dignity scale.

In this case, Lil made the decision that she just liked Sandra better. So lifestyle choice is what did Jon in, just as if she had decided she wanted a Christian to go to F2, or didn't want a gay person in F2 with her. I find that despicable, and Sandra's win is tainted because of it.

58. Fair enough.........
.....but I still disagree.

Just maybe flying under the radar (being carried to the finals) IS doing what you have to do to win. Why is it any less strategic for someone like Ethan or even Sandra to work at NOT becoming a target while assholes like Jon lie and scheme and piss everyone off to force their way to the final??? There are many ways to be a 'player'.

You wrote:
"As for dignity, I'd say that Sandra's constant tantrums, sabotaging the tribe's equipment, tossing the fish and letting her "ally" take the blame for it, don't add up to much on the dignity scale."

If you read my original reply to you, you'll see that I said that Sandra and Ethan kept their dignity intact 'more than the others'. I realize there is a certain amount of gamesmanship, ie...Sandra letting Krista take the blame for the fish....but on the whole, she was much more 'straight up' than most of them, except maybe Rupert(who I really think deserved to win, but I wont go there).

As for Jons lifestyle beating him.........c'mon now, you dont really believe that do you?? I think Lil was trying to put her decision in the best light she could. She didnt take Jon to the final because he was a smacked ass and she had the chance to block his chance at a million dollars, so she took it. Smartest decision she made during the entire season, IMO.

I guess you and I just have different reasons why we think someone should 'deserve' to win. Fair enough.

59. I agree with you Chefgal!!!
When you think about it, there seems to be 2 successful trends to winning the game: You have your schemers like Richard and Brian, but then you have those who fly under the radar to be able to win it all. You can't question the validity of either tactic - sometimes it's just the matter of how the tribe is made up to whether they'll catch on if there is a major schemer or a low-flyer in the group.

The sad thing is, we never really know how the game is played - we only get to see an hours worth of of 3 days of playing and it's really how the producers edit the game.

Me, I think Lill was the biggest schemer in Pearl Island, even more so than Jon. She really did play her crying, sorrys and that dang boy scout mumbo jumbo to the hilt. And the real Lill came out during that last immunity challenge. I never thought granny, who looked like a bumbling fool in most of the physical challenges, to outlast everyone for immunity and she went for it and won it. And I think she could have beaten Sandra for the big money - until she kept harping on how she should have never wore her boyscout uniform - that's what lost it for her.

60. Actually, Lynne
Every single person who's won so far has done it using a unique strategy. Mostly because strategies have to be custom fit to the personality employing them as well as the game circumstance.

Ethan is really the only Under the Radar (UTR, as we call 'em on the newsgroup) winner we've seen. Vecepia actually played the game beautifully. She was doing the RobC alliance jumping before he thought of it. She was penalised by two factors. She didn't give good sound bites in confessionals, apparently, so MB couldn't play her up as a schemer; and she was a very unpleasant person.

Tina was much more unpleasant than anyone seems to remember. Her vicious comments about Keith in that horrible finale episode come to mind, as well as the fact that she was the one who actually searched Kel's personal property for the "beef jerky" Jerri claims to have seen.

Jenna won several immunity challenges, and schemed her butt off the last few days to pull off that win.

So really, UTR isn't a very good strategy, for the simple fact that people are unlikely to vote for you if they think you rode coattails into the finals.

Oh, and Lil was indeed a bumbling fool. Shall I go back and pull out the number of times she insisted that someone had to tell her out to vote? The number of times she broke down crying over some silly thing? She was on the verge of collapse at the end, and the only reason she won the final challenge was that it was, as most endurance challenges are, custom built for someone like her. Women are just better at that sort of thing than men are, just as men tend to be better at the raw strength challenges. Notice that only one man has ever won an endurance challenge that wasn't given to him, and that was Brian, who was so far ahead of his competitors both mentally and physically that there wasn't much hope that any challenge could have balanced it out at that point.

But this is part of what makes this such a great show: everyone gets something different from it! I love the pure gameplay of a Brian or Richard or Jon, other people watch it for other reasons.

The thing I'm most excited about concerning this All Star Survivor (on the newsgroup, we just call it ASS because we can get away with it) is that there won't be any innocents out there. None of this friendship crap. Every person out there knows why they're there, and has shown themselves willing to lie and scheme and betray to win.

You're there to win, or you're there to lose. This is going to be a great season coming up. I'm picking Rob C or Richard to win it all, with Lex a good candidate as well.

62. But to me - that WAS how Lill was scheming
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 08:57 AM by LynneSin
Seriously, I don't think Lill was as naive as we thought she was. I think she played it to the hilt with that "Boo-hoo I can't handle it anymore" "Boo-Hoo I don't know who to vote for but I just want to be in the final 2". You ask me - that was an act and Jon was probably the only one who saw through it. He was the master when he confronted Darrah about how she would vote for Lill - with Lill standing right there, because Jon saw through Lill's scheming

I do disagree though about her having a chance to beat Sandra. As you said, we only see one hour out of three days of play, and I think alot of what we didnt see (which came to light in the finale) was how annoyed the jury was with Lil. They all pretty much had her act figured out, but the producers really didnt show that until the final show. I felt like a creep for hating her too...lol. Everyone on the show seemed to be pretty compassionate toward Lil and every time she would start that whining I wanted to reach through the screen and smack her upside the head!!!

I still think the right person won, and as I said in an earlier post, I would not have watched that final hour if it had been Lil and Jon.

Im sooooooo looking forward to seeing Rupert in the all star edition too. Should be fun!

57. They're going to have Vecepia in All-Stars
Gag me.

I hated that season with all the freaking fundies praying. Personally, I can't think of one person from Season 4 I'd want to watch in All-Stars. Maybe Kathy - she was kinda goofy....maybe.

They could skip that entire season's cast and find more interesting people to select from the other seasons (heck, they could skip season #5 too.)

61. Where did you hear that?
Everything I've read says Vecepia isn't going to be there. She apparently just had a kid or something.

The spoiler lists I've seen include (highlight to read) from Season 4 Kathy and Boston Rob and from Season 5, Shii Ann, with Ken as an alternate.

I'm still mystified that Amber is going to be on.

49. i hate the editing
a 6-1 vote? I am sick of Mark burnett editing that totally blindsided me to the Sandra stomping. Then again Lil was stupid for not wanting to go in to the final two with a nasty despicable person.

54. One thing that I believe really helped Sandra out early in the game
In past season's of Survivor it's usually some older person that gets the boot and Sandra looked like someone that would barely make it out of the first 2 weeks.

But when I look back at the season, I think what helped out Sandra early on with winning friends was what she did in when they did at the start of the game. They gave each tribe $100 and dropped them off at a village in Panana to buy the supplies they would need for their camp. Morgan pretty much sucked at getting their stock together, but the Drake tribe had one major advantage - Sandra was fluent in Spanish and could negotiate with the shopkeepers for supplies and the Drake team was well stocked.

Then she gave up a necklace to buy all the chicken that someone was grilling (a big bounty's worth). That probably help her establish friendships with Rupert and Christa which helped get her into the latter part of the games.
