Five years of living in N. Lovell and "commuting" to North Conway. I remember once we didn't get plowed out for 4 days...fortunately,I was well supplied with food, drink and etc:)

11. it's really accumulating quickly
tonight. I was down in S. Tamworth, and had to drive about 30 miles home. It's wet snow and very cold - so my wipers kept icing up, and I'd have to pull over to clear 'em off.

....hmm...what am I doing here??? :+

10. Even I was impressed by the 50 inches last week up at the notch!
Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 08:18 PM by papau
How the hell did you get out?

In the long ago I'd park on 16 in a N Conway business lot - and walk 4 or 5 hours to get in!

20. I'm about 15 minutes south of the notch
So, it wasn't quite as bad down here in Jackson. We only had about 2 and a half feet.

Gorham had to cancel school Monday, to remove snow from the school roof - they were afraid the roof was going to cave in.

It's hard to imagine that people used to walk from Jackson, or N. Conway all the way to Mt. Wash - then climb the mountain - with their skiis, climbing in their ski boots. Is that what you did, paupau?
My hat's off to you!!

5. Matt - we get only 6 in plus freezing sleet/ice tonight - the folks a few
miles west in Mass (Bershires) may hit 24 inches - it just was not our turn!

2/3rds of the keep roads clear budget gone - and winter has not even started!

16. Because...

...Florida is home to 26 known militia groups, California is prone to earthquakes, Texas gave us our piss-poor excuse for a president, Arizona has no water, Nevada has nothing but casinos, Mississippi is home to Trent Lott, Alabama's infrastructure is about a century behind the times, and Louisiana's humidity is horrendous.

One more reason: I'm a native New Englander and I like it here, dammit!

21. It's less scary than Earthquakes, Volcanos, Hurricanes, and Tornados
Actually, these things don't scare me much. I just ended up here because it's where my parents moved me many years ago, but I don't always like it for a multitude of reasons, probably weather is the least of them. I'm not a New England person really, but I make the best of it.

24. Other: It's worse in Minnesota
...which is where I grew up.

Course you could say it's worse here in Mass, because at least in Minn. you get genuine, y'know, SNOW. As opposed to what's falling right now, which is some diabolical combination of snow, sleet, freezing, rain, rain, and every imaginable thing in between. YUCK.

Plus in Minnesota, they actually know how to DRIVE in the stuff. Can't tell you how many times I've been awakened at 5 am here in Boston (well, Somerville) by some dimwit in his SUV outside my window, stuck in his parking place and just revving the shit out of it, spinning his tires and creating a nice little inescapable ice slick instead of doing what any 16 year old in Minnesota would know, namely ROCK the fucking thing, didn't your Dad teach you ANYTHING about driving in the snow you stoooooopid MORAN!
