A couple of years ago they sold their house in Arizona to move back to Florida where the wife is from. Their Florida realtor had been contacted by the House Hunters people and she, in turn, asked them if they wanted to be on the show. They went out house hunting with the realtor without any cameras present, and only after they found and bought a condo, did the crew show up to film the episode. They were filmed looking at the condo they had already bought (pretending this was the first time they were seeing it), and at two other houses the realtor had listed - which they called "shill" houses.
A few months after they moved in, the crew returned to film them in their new home. They enjoyed the experience, and were given some money to do it, though they wouldn't say how much.
I like the show, despite learning how staged it is. I guess Star Jones needs the work. Suzanne Whang, when not on House Hunters, appears in infomercials!
