Job bullshit
I have been in a contract to hire position for the last 5.5 months. I was supposed to be hired after 3. Performance hurdles were set up in front of me and I cleared them. Then came employee layoffs. The manager said he still expected to hire me. Today I found out its a "no go" but he's "optimistic". Good for him. I am being strung along and its making me sick.

I have no health insurance and I cannot afford to pay for the meds I need right now, today. $1000 month to get what I need.

My supervisor and manager- who could have avoided this situation if they had hired me before the layoffs- complain to me about everything. They take vacations, have great salaries and benefits, control my destiny, and complain to me.

There are a bunch of us contractors around here who have no health insurance. They hang it out in front of you like a carrot in front of a mule.

I hate this. I have to find something that works for me. I am so tired of being strung along in contract to hire situations. You never get hired.

1. sorry to hear about that...
i was in a similar situation years ago, but my most recent contract-to-hires have worked out... in one in the 90's (totally different climate, employment wise) i was hired after a few months... at this job, i was hired after a year.

4. I've been disappointed time after time
But the thing that kills me is that the manager didn't volunteer the information when he knew it, he strung me along.

7. Be glad you have socialized medicine, billyskank...
In the US, if you can't afford health insurance or it is not provided by your employer, it's terrible. Medical costs are outrageous, and medications are getting pricier and pricier. :(

10. I am
I just don't understand, when people are being asked for a thousand bucks a month for necessary medicines, why the people aren't on the streets. You know, forcing the politicians to listen. Because medicine doesn't really cost that much. They only cost you guys so much because as individuals, you're easy to screw.

:* :hi:

6. A friend of mine married for health insurance in November
Not really what he wanted to do, but he was in pain.
If I had that option, I'd take it.

8. That really sucks
It's just unconscionable that companies are allowed to string people along like that - why should they actually hire someone when they can string them along and avoid paying health benefits and decent salaries? Tough position to be in.

9. I know others that this kind of thing has happened to.
 Are there other possibilities in your profession that hire people outright instead of using the contract lure to get them in? I know in some areas, the labor market for certain professions is at the mercy of employers. I hope you can find a permanent position soon.
