first, a big hug to you!
then, a Christmas spirit-
...now, I hate Christmas shopping. I don't even really do it. I, also don't have as much money as people in my family, and I'm scatter-brained half the time or find reasons not to go to the post office, or..
anyway, so all I'm saying is that if I want to be in the Christmas spirit, I avoid the malls with a vengence.
what gets me in the Christmas spirit is putting lights on a tree because it makes the world seem special for a little while.
and bake some cookies with somebody, and test a lot of them before you share! :)
I rented Matewan, that happy Christmas movie, to watch after I put up my Christmas tree.
I had to go to the grocery store this evening, which meant I had to get into Christmas shopping traffice...ugh.
it started snowing, so the traffic was even more of a mess, with one car missing the turn into a shopping area and blocking traffic, and when I got out of the grocery store, people were honking their horns at each other because traffic was moving so slowly or was blocked because of the slippery roads...
and I was full of Christmas spirit to know I could to home and not have to be around those people, that I could turn on the lights on my Christmas tree and watch a movie about some people who knew what it really meant to try to come together for some peace on earth and peace of mind and equity.
If I had to spend Christmas time shopping, I would be a Scrooge, because it's really pitiful, to me, to see how aggressive and unhappy people can be trying to spread a little Christmas cheer.
so now the snow is on the ground and the moon is so bright off that snow that I'm ever happier I don't have to spend money to enjoy this time of year.
p.s. your girlfriend doesn't care if you spend "as much money" --so don't sweat it and know that she wants you to be able to enjoy that she can give as well as receive.
you can also give her "gift certificates" for back rubs and things like that...presents which only you can deliver...
