3. Ska from the '60s by actual Jamaicans, I like OK.
Ska from the '80s by Brits, not too shabby.

Ska from the '90s by ex-hardcore kiddies affecting plaid wardrobes? :puke:

15. LOL, nah, I was thinking more Sublime, Reel Big Fish,
Less Than Jake, Op Ivy, yadda yadda yadda yawn. Hell, No Doubt were too poppy to even be on my radar, clogged with Amphetmine Reptile sludge albums as said radar was at the time.

19. Love first and second generation ska
Got hooked in the early eighties by groups like the English Beat, Killer Bees, etc. Then went back and did some exploring into the original Jamacian ska, and found that I really liked that too. Newer ska:shrug: I've been off exploring other musical paths for a long while now, things like Tsapiky music from Madagasgar, and Cuban acapella groups. Sooner or later I'll swing back through to ska.

23. You can sample, and even buy the downloads here
<http://tsapikyguitars.calabashmusic.com/>

But I really suggest that you order the CD, if for no other reason than the liner notes. The guy who collected this music went through ten kinds of hell to record it, and his story is amazing, scary, and funny all at the same time.

And since you like the English Beat, for you<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0zBXpWMJOY&search=english%20beat>

Got to see these guys, and many other ska groups back in the day, the early eighties. For being out in the middle of Missouri, we had a lot of good groups coming through the Blue Note. Helps being a college town I suppose.

26. Yeah, I saw them back in the day
Here in Mid Missouri, the market was small enough that they were headliners. We got(and still do get) an incredibly wide ranging selection of high quality groups coming through, helps being a college town.

Saw the Go-Gos before they were big. Local joint, the Blue Note, booked them for two shows back in 1981, one in the spring, one in the fall. Caught the spring show, even got to party back stage(helps being a college DJ). Great show, great fun, but sparsely attended. Over the summer Beauty and the Beat took off and went mega pop platinum. Richard, owner of the Blue Note, canceled the fall show, didn't want to have to deal with thousands of screaming fans all trying to get into a joint that holds 800 tops.

30. Hell, I've got a permanent case of tinnitus
Was a DJ for a number of years, with headphones on and cranked a lot of times. Add all the free shows, and it is periodic ringing for me in middle age. Ah well, it was well worth it.
