The New Texas Chainsaw: Your opinion?
I like it. R. Lee Ermey rocked. The new plot was cool, becaus I did not want to see the old one again.
The original will always be the greatest of all slasher flicks though.

1. I liked it

To me, it was as good as the first one if not better in certain aspects. In the first one, the guy in the wheelchair was the most intense aspect. You could really empathize more with him more than the other dumbasses because he couldn't run.
The best part about both movies though is the rumor that it all actually happened. I went to see it with a friend who believed that. Listening to him talk about,"How could human being's treat each other that way? Those poor people.", was worth quadruple the price of admission. I told him before he decided to join a monastery. j/k

2. actually, it is loosely based upon the story of ed gein..
same as Silence of the Lambs. There's a movie entitled Ed Gein, with the dude who played Charlie Manson in Helter Skelter playing Gein.

3. Psycho was also based on Ed Gein
just FYI :)

Basically most movies that involve multiple killings, cannibalism, stuffed or mummified parental units and a dose of realism take a little from Gein.

The only problem is that compared to some of the newer whackos that have come out since, Gein isn't that bad any more (like if you compare him to Dahmer for instance).

4. I don't think so
I think there's a certain level of action that once it has been reached, comparison is meaningless. Dahmer, JW Gacy, Charlie Manson, Hitler, Stalin and Gein are all on my human monster all-star team.
How did we get on this subject?

5. Oh yeah,

The original movie was filmed not too far from where I live and there was a rumor going around here (Austin-South Central Texas) that it was a true story because the original ad for the movie promoted it that way. Something like," A story so horrible you can't believe it is true."
