Do you look like your mothers side or your fathers side of the family?
I look like my fathers side of the family but one thing i can't figure out and maybe someone here knows is what side do you get your height from? My daughter and I are the tallest females in our family on both sides, i'm 5'6, my almost 12 year old is 5'5, all the other women are under 5'4 including my husbands family. Why am i taller than all the woman i'm related to? My grandpa on my fathers side was 6ft but my Dad is only 5'6 although he'll tell anyone that will listen that he's 5'9, yeah maybe in heels Dad.

2. I look totally like my father's mother's family
But I have all my mother's mannerisms so people think we look alike when, really, we don't.

My brother, who is much younger than my sister and me, looked just like my sister and father until he was about six and then no one could figure out who he looked like. He kept getting taller and taller until he was 6'2" (my father is 5'9") and his hair began to recede (father and both grandfathers had full heads of hair). Then someone unearthed a picture of my mother's mother's father, who died when my grandmother was sixteen, and lo and behold, my brother looks just like him. And he was tall with a receding hairline.

I love to see how features, characteristics, etc. are passed down from generation to generation.

4. I look like my mother's father...
same height (6'), same general build (slender), slightly darker colouring (light to medium brown hair/green eyes instead of blond/blue).

5. Both.
When I was a kid I was always told how much I looked like my Aunt Ginny, my dad's sister. Now that I'm older I look like my mom.

One of my brothers looks exactly like my mom's side of the family and the other brother looks exactly like my dad's side of the family. No one believes they're brothers because they don't look a thing alike. But I look enough like both of them that no one doubts I'm the sister of whichever brother I'm with.

6. my sister and i are like that, she's blond, blue eyes and petite
very fair skin or as my husbands calls her "the whitest person in America, almost translucent" and i'm 5'6, dark hair, dark eyes and somewhat olive skin, we are exact opposites except we both have the same nose.

14. Same for me and my sister, except reversed.
Our facial features are similar, and we're both tall with a thin build, and are only a year apart, but some people still have a hard time believing we're sisters sometimes. People either think we look a lot alike, or nothing alike.

12. We have twins like that in our family.
They don't look even remotely alike. In addition to their utterly different faces, they have different hair and eye colors, different skin tones, different heights, different body types, and completely opposite personalities. Each looks like a mini-me of one parent.

9. I don't look much like either...
too much of a blend of recessive traits, maybe?

I look quite a lot like my brother, who looks more like my mom's side...but I don't have the build of my mom's side, or the coloring.

I also have an odd facial shape that comes from my mom's side...but it's very much a recessive trait. Very few in the family have it, my mom has a mild version, but other than that...her great-uncle had it, and no one else :wtf:

Weird stuff.

I have the same nose and mouth and general facial structure. I have my dad's hair color but my mom's genetic premature gray hair. I have traits from both sides, though, and I'm the only person in my immediate family with a butt. :P Not a large one, but a nice one that at least holds my pants on. My mother and father and sister and brother are all assless. :eyes: Don't ask me know it happened, 'cause I don't know. Oh, and I have Dad's genes for having a bigger chest than on Mom's side, which is OK by me. The women in Dad's family are better-endowed than the ones in Mom's. (I don't have a huge chest, I'm just not flat-chested!)

I once wore a dark brown wig for a school play when I was in high school, and I could've passed for my mom at that age.

My sister looks like my dad, and my brother is kind of a happy medium.

13. Growing up, I looked just like my mother
except fairer. She has dark hair and brown eyes, and I have light hair and green eyes. As an adult I look more like my father's side of the family. Everyone's tall on both sides, so my height could have come from either side.

15. I look pretty close to this

They always said my mom could never deny me. I am my mother's daughter, right down to being neurotic like her. I could do without that part.

21. Like my mom
although as I get older, my dad's family says that I look like him around the eyes. My mom looked a lot like Bette Davis (thankfully only the look and not the temperment) and occassionally would even get stopped on the street or in a restaurant or store and asked if she were, in fact, BD. Mom would smile and say no, and thanked them for the compliment.

23. Facially I'm very like my mother.
But physically I'm like my father... tall and slim as opposed to short and voluptuous.
