Shame on you Keith
I love your show most of the time. But what you did to Star Jones tonight was shameful. She deserved better than that endless loop of the football tape. Yes, Star was fat. So what. She didn't kill anyone, she didn't hurt anyone, she simply got fired. Shame on you Keith. Save that kind of crap for the O'Reillys of the world.

3. People in NY television absolutely loathe that woman.
I don't hold it against KO whatsoever.

And when I say "loathe that woman", I am softballing it.

There is a reason she doesn't have any new gig scheduled.
Actually, a LOT of reasons.

7. They didn't ask her back for a 10th season
I guess it was a non renewal but became a firing when she said she was non renewed on Tues and gave an interview to People.

8. Oh, puhleeze...
Why are you bringing Star's weight into the discussion. KO didn't. He was commenting on weather Star was trying to avoid an endless blooper real, "like when Star was hit in the face with a football." He never said it was because she was fat, never aluded to her being fat, it was entirely about her getting bonked with the football. Aww. Poor Star.

The segment was also about how she shit on her co-hosts and producers and burned bridges behind her. Given all that, I think they treated her fine. And while maybe the eighth loop of the football clip might have been getting a bit much, it WAS funny, and it did serve a purpose. Please don't make this an issue about her weight. It was nothing of the sort.

10. Oh yes he did
He specificly mentioned her weight loss, mentioned that a vain Star might not have wanted a highlight tape played. Sorry, but I watched this thing and you are just plain wrong.

11. He MENTIONED her weight, yes.
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 08:35 PM by Atman
But that was it. But not even in as much detail as you stated. He simply mentioned her "unexplained weight loss." He did say Star was vain and may not like a highlights real played. He didn't tie the two together as you're trying to do. The clearer implication was that there are lots of goofy, embarrassing tapes of her sitting around and she was just trying to avoid having any of them appear on her farewell real. I don't know if that is entirely true, but it sure makes sense in the context it was presented.

Now, lets look at a couple of FACTS...

Does Star Jones have a reputation for being vain? Yes.

Does Star Jones have a reputation for being a heinous bitch? As I understand it, yes I don't watch the show).

Did she lose a whole lot of weight quickly and refuse to talk about it? As I understand it, yes.

Did she get hit in the face with a football, and was that caught on tape as a segment for the show? Yes.

OOoooooooh. Bad Keith! :eyes:

15. So let's review
First, you falsely claim he didn't mention her weight, but then when I point out he did, it isn't a big deal.

Second, you can't dispute a single fact I mentioned.

We are now down to interpretation. While a thin man talks about a fat woman's weight loss and vanity an endless loop of said woman in tight clothes and showing her rear end plays in the backround. Now maybe you have never been fat and made fun of for your weight. As one who has been there, I know what I saw. It was mean spirited and intended to make fun of a fat person. It was as blatently anti fat person as Amos and Andy were racist.

19. Oh, gosh
"First, you falsely claim he didn't mention her weight, but then when I point out he did, it isn't a big deal."

What I was attempting to say, and maybe didn't say well, is that KO did not make this a segment about her weight. The reference to her weight was totally in passing, and not even in the context you're trying to place it in. He mentioned her "unexplained weight loss." He didn't attempt to tie the remark into the football clip, or say "She was fatty, and let's watch funny clips of her!" as you're trying to turn this into. The football clip was in context to embarrassing clips of her. Was it embarrassing or not?

Secondly, uh...what "single fact" did you mention? Your post was like, one sentence long! You didn't mention any other "facts" than to say "HE DID TO!" If that is your fact, sure, I concede that you said it.

Finally, and this ought to be your favorite part. Seven years ago I weighed 230 lbs. I now weigh 175. I contend that YOU are being way overly sensitive and finding insults where there were none -- or, more accurately, your taking one clip and tieing it in to a different remark, and are attempting to make a "fat bias" case out of it. I'm just calling bullshit on it, that's all. Because I have been there, too. And I saw nothing offensive about it. It was funny.

24. Congrats on the weight loss
It was an embarrasing clip but I am sure there had to be others including ones where she was thin. Instead of an endless clip of one where she was huge and dressed hideously he could have run a compulation. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

22. Oh, and if you think KO is "a thin man," I believe you are barking
WAY up the wrong tree...

He even said on the air once that he's had problems with being overweight on and off since he was five years old. And right now appears to be one of the "overweight" times, from what pictures I've seen of him where you can see his waistline.

And does he have a double standard? I don't think so. Especially not after the other night, when he was asking why Nicole Kidman couldn't fit into her custom-designed wedding gown despite being "a stick figure" and "gaunt." He just didn't get that, and he sounded concerned that she was TOO thin.

This had nothing to do with Star Jones's weight, and everything to do with how she chose to leave The View. At one point KO knew he was leaving ESPN too (no, he didn't get fired, but he was having problems with management and was able to get his first deal with MSNBC). But he didn't just get on the air with Dan Patrick one night and say "Oh, uh, Dan, before you tell everyone the final score of that game you just described, I have something to say that's been weighing on my heart..."

Jeez!

23. OH please - Star Jones gets what she deserves
She ruined "The View" by trying to make it the "Star Jones Extravangza" with that whole wedding joke where she used her show to give free advertising to the anyone who'd give her free stuff for her wedding.

And the fact that she is a fraud about her weight loss - she had surgery, it's a known fact but she won't talk about it because somehow she could be perceived as less of a person because she had some help.

Go for it Keith

25. I fail to see why this was moved to the Lounge
Would you have moved this if the issue had been making fun of a woman for being a woman, a black or Hispanic for racial reasons, or a lesbian or gay man for being a homosexual? Then why move this? Even if one thinks my theory is wrong, the thread still belongs in GD.
