Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 07:46 PM by zonkers
and a light breakfast. The, take a hike in the woods/at the beach. Head home, take a long hot bath with the newspaper. Call up a friend you've lost touch with. Go out again. Hit some record stores. Maybe get a pedicure/foot massage. Buy a cool pair of sneakers (thats me). See that movie no one else wants to see. Go home, watch some TV. Order out a pizza. Have a scotch. Crash early.

I never had one where I wasn't alone.

Don't fret on it. Enjoy it the best you can. (that's hard for me to say because I don't know if I'll make 35 and I always get depressed on my "special day.")

But we are here in spirit.

I used to feel soooo sorry for myself. But now I'm used to it. The being alone thing might be interesting.

Why are you talking about not making it to 35? Do I have to come down there and smack you?

13. Right now it's only hypoglycemia...
I'm not out to do anything deliberate, hell no.

But my fear is full blown diabetes will develop and I'll require meds.

I'm also constantly worried about my job going bye-bye, for 5 very valid reasons. No money and insurance = no meds.

I'm doing what I can to compensate during the interim, but it's so far not working, the added exercise and I do it plenty each day.

But I will keep trying. And hope I can reverse the trend.

(oh, diabetes is on both sides of my family... I always knew it'd be a matter of time anyway.)

18. From what I hear there are some new meds on the horizon.
No injections required. That was something I always worried about, having to inject insulin. From what I hear one does get very used to it. But I know, it's the whole idea of being on maintenance medication to stay alive. Makes one feel unsafe, somehow.

62. Awesome news!
From what I've heard, doing the blood check freaks more people out; the injection is painless. :wow:

Still, of all the diseases requiring poppin' pills to stay alive, I'd probably enjoy diabetes the most. :D

I don't mind meds... just the price of them as our politician-hopefuls who keep begging for our votes remind us on... ah, the culture of life. :D

60. Right now they're ALL blaming it on anxiety... somewhat unfair...
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 10:50 PM by HypnoToad
but I have been under a lot of stress lately, from many aspects in my life... I cannot deny that. But there's much more to it than that.

But I'm waiting for the full collapse and ER treatment. There's nothing else I can do; I will be overruled in an nanosecond without a lot of proof to show there's something behind the anxiety and I now know there is... and I'm very sensitive to "medications".

And the way the feeling progresses, I anticipate within 4 weeks, but what do I know? Something is funky, and not in a good way, and I can't begin to estimate what will happen or when. It just feels icky.

http://www.med-help.net/Hypoglycemia.html - says it all. From the sweating to the nausea to the clammy skin. The lot. Anxiety can be a contributor, yes... but given not just my family history but the consistency that transcends acute episodes of anxiety... anxiety is not the root cause. It makes it worse at times. I haven't been anxious most of the evening, yet the hunger and clamminess hasn't gone. Tingling extemities (esp. feet) too...

...But I now have the tools to keep a constant log of times and readings and that's the proof I need. I've always wanted to play doctor... Maybe I can show that to the doc and get this anxiety nonsense thrown out. Before it gets worse. Saturday was trying as I was driving back from somewhere and got to the buffet restaurant just in time; I was already keeling over while driving... I recall the delurium as filling up the first place... I also recall feeling the 'shock' sensation after I started eating; it's not a comfortable experience, I can assure you. Eventually it all settled down. But yuck...

50. Wow, Boo. Talk about a rock and a hard place....
Now granted, my experience of Bangor is the bus station at the end and/or beginning of a few backpacking trips, but that's a pretty dark and dingy place in my experience. Kind of depressed me. And Oregon, in the winter at least, same thing. I lived in Seattle for a few years. I can't deal with the pacific NW anymore. I've never lived in the NE though. I've always wanted to. I may just come a knockin'.

...Stranger things have happened.

...I suppose.

...hey, anything's possible.

...Right?

You try to cheer yourself up. It's a rough time, I know.

Hugs.

And I spent New Year's Eve with three dogs and a sleeping friend who was recovering from major surgery... and DU. Actually, it was one of my most memorable New Year's, ever. There are a lot of kind folks here, and they're always available, day or night. You have friends here, and we'll all wish you the best birthday, ever...:grouphug:

I think that normally being alone on my birthday wouldn't be a big deal. It's a hard time for me right now. But... New Years with three dogs? Attending a sickbed? You are a good friend! I'm sorry you spent part of your birthday alone too.

75. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I like my name, too. And I like yours, as well. A lovely name and more unusual than mine.:-)

I am always impressed with the kindness and compassion that I see everyday on DU. Liberals are like that. :D If you need help, advice, sympathy, or just plain company, day or night, your friends on DU are always there. And some of the kindest relies that I've ever received, like on New Year's, were from people who I'd never crossed paths with before.:-)

And I understand how tough being alone on your birthday must be for you. I'm sure that I'm older than you are and this was the first time for me, and it was tough. I felt a little sorry for myself, but I knew that I made the right choice, not spending my day with what remains of my family, who doesn't wish me well during the rest of the year...:-(

And I actually really enjoyed this past New Year's Eve. I was with someone who really needed me and asked me to be there, even though he wasn't awake, LOL! And the company of dogs is vastly underrated, LOL! And I am only with two dogs, right now, so this past New Year's Eve is a good memory for me...

As for my birthday, my good friend, who turned me on to DU, showed up late with my favorite pizza, so I managed to sober up for that...:D And you know that your friends from DU, whether you've known them before, or not, will definitely be here with you, on your special day, including me.:D

Rhiannon:hug:

57. Been there
done that. What I suggest is you do what I do when I'm alone on my birthday--grab yourself a mental health day.

Decide beforehand where you would like to go that you've never been before, within a 2 hour radius from home. Depending on what you want, it could be filled with other people, or solitary, which is the way I usually like it. Put a lunch together, stick it in your backpack and go for the drive. When you get to your destination, take lots of pictures, make a picnic, relax and just contemplate and meditate. At the end of the day, go to a nice restaurant, and then drive home. Play only your favorite songs on the CD player or MP3 player, and when you get home, unwind, and go to bed early. The day will remain in memory long after it has passed.

Sorry, I cannot relate to your desperation but I wish you all of the happiness in the world. :)

67. 90,000 of your closest friends to party with
minus a few Freeper trolls, of course. Heck, they may even tip a glass (or a bottle of Oxycontin) to your health!

Now everybody just phones it in.

I've been alone every birthday. It's not so bad. Solitude is the essence of human existence. You'll be okay.

73. So true!
I've been all about self-pity lately. Time to quit whining. That's the plan!
