Star Jones fired because she lost weight and got married!!
"Walters didn't discuss on the air why Reynolds, an original cast member who's been on the show for nine years, wasn't being asked back. She said in an interview Tuesday that research showed audience members were turned off by Reynolds' dramatic weight loss and glitzy wedding to banker Al Reynolds in 2004."

What is one to make of this? I'm not a big View fan or Star Jones fan, but it doesn't seem fair that people turned on her just because she finally found happiness.

1. On a show aimed at lonely housewives - it does no good....
To have a member get married and lose weight and be happy. Then the audience can no longer identify with her.

3. Yes but you have to realize what Star Jones did with her wedding
Basically she offered free advertising to anyone who provided free services for her wedding. So if you donated a free cake to her wedding then on the View she would talk about the name of the bakery on the show.

The other gals on the show found it irritating that she was pulling a stunt like this.

Plus Jones-Reynelds keeps denying that any surgery was involved with her weight loss even though it's pretty common knowledge that there was surgery involved. Now how do you think that makes people feel to think that somehow she managed to loss 100lbs on her own when the rest of us struggle ESPECIALLY since the key ingredient - surgery, was left out

20. So you're making the argument
>Women who sit around hating men and longing for female companionship - Sounds like housewives to me.<

that any woman not working outside the home "hates men", let alone the "sitting around" statement?

32. You're one off pal. The problem is that she lost weight and looked awful
To have a demonstration that someone can loose the weight and look even worse than before, is like telling a kid that Santa doesn't bring toys, but in fact will show up on Christmas eve and beat their asses.

2. It's not because she finally found happiness
She lost weight by a gastric bypass but kept saying it was through diet and exercise. People don't like liars.
She pimped her wedding. It was a big ostentatious display paid for by sponsors. That wedding was not about finding happiness. It was crass commercialism. I found it offensive and apparently many other did too.

15. It wasn't just offensive but a misuse of air time
The show and the networks make money from commercials. Without any approval or oversight she kept giving ads on the show for her own benefit. She was selling air time to get a free wedding but it was not her air time to sell. Couple that with expecting everyone to just pretend that she lost weight without surgery making her lie theirs was probably too much too ask. I think she was lucky not to be fired back in 2004 when she was behaving like this. I don't watch the View but I can't blame her being fired for this reason.

6. Apparently, Star Jones is a complete asshole anyway.
She was involved in the legal system in California (DA? Prosecutor? Circuit Judge?) and was known to be a motherfucker, even way back then.

And celebrity doesn't have a proven reacrd of making people less assholish as they become more popular.

17. despite the circumstances...
everything is great

i'd been out traveling for the last few months, sort of hobo style...hitchhiking and train hopping that sort of thing. but i broke my collarbone almost 2 weeks ago hopping off a moving freight so retreated back to wisconsin to recover, and on friday i'm going in for surgery since it was a pretty vicious break. but even all of that hasn't been bad and life is good...it's a long recovery so i'll be around here for awhile...good to see you, and i'll be around...

I have no idea who that person is, but if she's not an adult film actress, she sure has an adult film actress name.

30. Why believe the media at face value?
And why not let happiness find her?

I haven't seen the show, so I don't know if her personality changed or not.

I once posted a happy post on a Saturday because the Friday night before was a really good one, and people didn't think it was me... :D

33. Star Jones Leaves 'View' To Spend More Time With Gay Husband
You may have heard the rumors that the Star Jones era at The View would soon be coming to an end: NY Daily News JV Gossip Lloyd Grove reports today that Jones has "signed a lucrative deal" at another network, and that the big announcement would come Friday. Lest Star's legions of fans think they had three more days to prepare for the news and subsequent grieving, we feel the need to warn our readers that the announcement came today: Calling her run "the most amazing nine years of my entire professional and personal life," Jones said she would be leaving mid-July and was "not sure what the future holds." And while we don't have the actual clip, we do have the above video of Jason Sehorn hitting Jones in the face with a football. It's a fitting illustration of what obviously hastened her departure, where Sehorn stands in for Barbara Walters, the football symbolizes Rosie O'Donnell, and an incapacitated, swollen-faced Jones represents, well, exactly that.

UPDATE: Jones tells People: "'What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season. I feel like I was fired.' She adds that she was told her contract wouldn't be renewed just days before news leaked that O'Donnell would be joining The View."

36. Her personality seems to have changed since the weight loss
and the marriage. I'm not a frequent watcher of the show, but she didn't use to annoy me like she does now. Back when the show started she was feisty, had an attitude. Lately when I turn it on she seems to have this omnipresent vacant smile and the way she talks sounds like she's blissed out on Xanax or something. If she's high on life, more power to her, but it doesn't seem natural.

41. That is so true...
since her marriage and weight loss, she has morped into this demure Southern belle-type. Personally, I liked her better as an in-your-face woman with an attitude.

39. I think Barbara was trying to take the high road at first
Star's contract was not renewed but she had six months left on it. The powers-to-be were going to have Star announce it on Thursday (today) and Star was to finish out the last 6 months on the show. But Star, making it all about her because that's how she has been with her wedding and weight lost, decided to announce it on her own two days early - probably to put everyone else on the spot.

The View needed to get rid of Jones. She abused her position on the View to receive freebies for her wedding in return for her to mention those businesses on air (as oppose to everyone else who has to buy normal ad-time). She also continues to deceive about her weightloss trying to make it seem that she did it naturally even though common knowledge knows she has had surgurical help (nothing wrong with surgical help - just be honest about it).

Star is going to fall into obscurity. She failed miserably as a Red Carpet host for E! (once again making it all about her instead of the celebrities she was trying to interview).

after she refused to become Rosie O'Donnell's daily punching bag. It was, imo, a bad career move.

40. That's a read between the lines statement
What you're really supposed to read is that it's that she mislead people about her weight loss and that she went apeshit overboard with the wedding and ordinary people can't actually relate to her anymore.
