The rinks are open in Chicago! My four-year-old son and I went to skating for the first time this year. He seemed to think falling down over and over again was fun.
He's getting big enough for real skates, maybe we can ditch the bob skates this year.
One of my favorite memories of living in NYC (for only about a year) was skating in Wollman Rink on Christmas Day. The ice sucked (lots of holes) but oh the view. Even if my crossovers suffered, it was worth it!!!! (Oh yeah -- Sean Lennon and his then-girlfriend from Ciaba Matta were there skating too!)
I am so jealous of all of y'all with the ice and snow! I want to go ice skating!!!!! (Okay, I don't know how to ice skate but I want to learn). I want some snow, DAMNIT!!!! I'll trade y'all one Christmas where you can wear shorts for one Christmas where I can have snow and go ice skating and build a snow man. Deal?
9. Didn't know there was a rink at the other end of the park
All I know is I stayed away from Rockefeller Center (too many tourists and too small) and Chelsea Piers (why skate indoors in NYC?). Now I'm back in Southern California (from whence I ventured to New York), where I may be able to wear shorts in winter but where I'd rather be skating in a freezing indoor rink (especially if it's the home of Michelle Kwan).
