They're good but they're too thick, you have to eat them with a spoon.

3. Steak 'N Shake, if there's one in your area.
Which there probably isn't (as far as I know, there aren't any west of the Mississippi).

9. there are many west of the mississipi
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 07:17 PM by fishwax
I've seen several passing through Missouri, and last I heard they were putting one in Oklahoma City. So fear not, when you next venture west of the mississippi, you might not have to sacrifice steak and shake :)

16. actually Texas is filling up with Steak and Shake and they do
have the most delicious shakes. Especially MOCHA

You really want to get your shake from a place that actually puts the ice cream, flavoring and milk in the metal thingie and mixes it all up.

Mickie D
Jack in the Crack
Burger King
Wendy's
...DO NOT COUNT...IT IS NOT A REAL MILKSHAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

6. Cook Out.
Though they're a small chain in our area though. Best mix of milkshakes you can ever get IMNSHO. Only place I know to get a completely mixed up milkshake.

Though Steak & Shake is good. Sonic is OK. McDonalds - if you must.

Mark.

14. Nobody anymore
My idea of a real milkshake is one that isn't too thick and isn't too smooth--it has liquid parts and lumps of ice cream in it.

Anything else is just stirred up ice cream.

15. How to choose a milkshake...
look to see if they use a soft ice cream dispenser. If they do, pass on it. It's impossible to make a good shake with soft ice cream (IMO). It's always too thick to drink and never really cold.

That said, Arbys (of the ones I've tried) ain't terrible - get extra chocolate syrup.

17. If you live in the midwest, get Culver's flavor of the day.
You don't know what it'll be until you get there, but it's delicious.

18. NO CHAIN SHAKES!!! If you can find...
a lunch counter or diner with a real shake mixer and real ice cream, do it. Ask them to toss a banana in there for some extra body.

Ice cream shops may do shakes, but not all of them. Takes too much time for some of them to want to deal with.

If you really care, though, you will have a blender, a bunch of bananas and other fruit, a large supply of ice cream, fresh coffee, chocolate syrup, maple syrup, cocoa powder...

That Magic Bullet they sell on TV-- lemme tell you it makes the BEST shakes ever. My Braun blender would be retired now except the Magic Bullet just isn't big enough some times...
