What the hell should I do with my life?
You probably don't know anything about me, but I could use your guidance anyway.

I need a direction in life. I'm disabled so that pretty much rules out all menial jobs and I'm not Mensa material either.

1. You are a good listener and a fairly compassionate person
How about getting education towards some type of counseling vocation?

2. You don't say if you're looking for emotional or financial direction.
In the latter case, what about an ebay business? Maybe you could sell stuff for people and take a commission, hit yard and garage sales for stuff to buy and sell, etc. If you have any special knowledge of collectibes or a hobby you can put that to use too.

12. lighten up, Junker.
He wasn't whining. He was asking advice from like-minded people he respects. What's wrong with that? We're not like so many Repugbots that have their meaningless little lives planned out on some economic strategy. Some of us actually ponder "What the hell is this all about anyway?"

btw: Welcome! :toast:

6. Depends
What are you interested in?

Computers? Maybe you can take some classes on web design, and freelance for locals bands (they ALL have to have a website now), small companies, etc. I've often thought of doing that on the side, myself.

People? There are many jobs in social services that aren't labor-intensive. Don't expect to get rich, though.

Books? There are often entry-level jobs that don't require degrees, especially at college libraries. That has the added bonus of being able to persue a degree for cheap or even free.

Basically, anything is out there if you look hard enough. I don't know the extent of your disability or if you're receiving assistance because of it. If you are, finding immediate, crappy employment isn't an issue. Take your time, and try to find a job doing something that interests you.

9. get a degree

and go into research or something. What are you interested in? Pursue that. Even if it doesn't seem particularly viable as an income source, you never know. You can always teach.

10. Can you help other disabled people?
Only the disabled really understand the problems and challenges they face, so if you could help others like yourself, you'd all benefit.

15. Find something you have a passion for, and do that!
Even if the money is terrible, you will wake up ready to start each day instead of dragging out of bed (except for weekends!).

If it could be something that makes a positive contribution to other people's lives, so much the better.

16. Your profile shows that you're in Sweden.
And I'd bet that there are unique, interesting products in Sweden - some of which might appeal to those with a Swedish background or heritage, and some of which might have a broader appeal

Find things that are fairly light, not too bulky, and easy to ship. Find companies that will drop ship (i.e., you don't deal with the logistics yourself.) Things like woolens (sweaters, mittens), jellies and jams, candies - maybe cookies too! Music and CD's might be good, too.

Create a web page (which certainly doesn't require Mensa membership!) and sell your goodies!

You could also go the other way. Find US goods and products that might do well in Sweden. Create your web page (nicely written in Swedish), and market US products.

Yes, import/export has pitfalls. Yes, there is certainly competition. But it may well be worth exploring.

And product testing those cookies and candies isn't a bad way to spend one's life! :-)

17. Why not teach English?
You write it better than we do. I mean, I appreciate that many, many Swedes have excellent English language skills, but there must still be a demand. Hey, you've got an excellent skill, why not use it?
