They are freaking complicated, man. I mean, you got the toes...and they move...and some toes move independently but when you move them some of the others move, too. I, for example, can move my big toe and my pinkie toe independently, but the other three all move together. Weird and freaky shit, d00dz.

Building a 3D model of a foot and making it look good and not like cankle-zilla is hard stuff, man! :o

How long have I been away? I saw my friend off the boot camp on Tuesday and I then I think that stopped getting on-line for a while because the Internet was so slow.

The foot is part of my first attempt at building a fully integrated, animatable model of a human female. Women are much much harder to model than men, but I think I did pretty good. Once I model the feet, I think I'm done and I can start integrating the model into the game engine I'm writing. This is not for school but for the company I should get incorporated in the fall, but it also provides an easy source of pre-made 3D-art for my graphics classes in the fall.

I also need to find a job but it's hard to get something around here that pays decently, lets me use at least some of my skills and isn't crap work. :(

I haven't run into the local fundies yet, but the moment they know I'm back in town some heads should explode. They thought they got rid of my last September. :D

Truth is, if you can build a good 3D woman, then a good 3D man is easy, just lose the breasts, narrow the hips, widen the waist and make all the angles a little sharper and cruder. I don't know if you saw the stills from my animation project (check my journal if you didn't) but that guy is ZombieMan Mark 1 (ZombieMan Mark 2 is better looking and currently in progress). I will say that he'd have been a lot easier to build if I'd done the woman first.

On the plus side, toes are much simple to animate than fingers. Fingers are an animator's nightmare...along with about everything to do with the face. x(

18. I don't animate much but I don't think they are easier to work

with than fingers. Especially when using global illumination. The toes and the rest of the foot need to be just right or it can look like the character is "floating" even when the geometry of the scene is perfectly correct.

I'm just a hobbyist and work in Carrara/ poser so that probably isn't an issue for you tho.

20. But for the most part you can just move all of them as a group.

Fingers do all sorts of weird shit like grasping, throwing, flipping the bird, etc...you can't do all that with toes.

Of course, the easiest way to get around that is just to put shoes on your character...:crazy:

My brother in law is really obsessed with feet. Until my sister married him I never paid a whole lot of attention but since he constantly points them out all summer long, it's unavoidable. They are pretty bizarre when you break them down.
