Why the hell am I paying for "Co-ed Nymphos" on my cable bill?
:grr:

Ya know, what other want to watch in their homes, fine. But this is my home, and I pay the cable bill, and I don't want porn on my TV.

Now I realize that my son will reimburse me (or I guess his friend will because it was his friend who ordered it) but I really don't want this crap in my house.

1. Can the cable company block PPV channels?
Is parental control with a PIN an option? That would keep it from happening again.

5. Your cable company can block your account
for all adult services. A PIN would be required to authorize any future adult services, and if you don't give that PIN to your son he would not be able to order any.

it's just that it's coming in on my cable bill. I don't want even the possibility that anyone would think that my money would go for that misogynistic crap.

7. The cable company won't care about his age.
They know that some people don't want to support this stuff.

I know a few people who work for Time Warner Cable and handle this kind of situation every day. It's really quick and easy for them to fix for you.

14. Pay the bill and demand that they remove the record of the purchase

from your account. I had the same problem with PPV
not porn but being billed for movies I didn't order.

I was happening because once you went on a PPV channel
clicking out ordered the movie without confirming the order.

Nice trick. It happened three times and each time I refused
to pay and demanded my account be credited for the purchase.

35. Maybe it's just me but
I wouldn't consider "what will others think" a problem, only the fact that my son was trying to get free PPV on my cable, be it porn or "X-Men 3."

BTW, if I was YOUR son I'd say it was "my friend" too. (But would have paid it up front without waiting for it to show up on your bill)

I don't like porn. I don't like how it portrays women. I don't even like the fact that most porn is geared for purchase by men.

22. I have an embarrassing little story
Four years ago, I had pneumonia during the holiday season. I'm sure it was pretty boring for DH, because all I did was sleep for the better part of two weeks. Sure enough, the satellite bill arrived the next month with a movie listed I KNEW I didn't order. I called them up in a lather and demanded that they remove the charge -- after all, it was just us, and he wouldn't order anything like that, would he?

After raising hell for the better part of 20 minutes, the CS representative agreed to remove the charve. Imagine my embarrassment to discover that yes, DH had ordered the movie.

I called them back, apologized profusely, talked to the CS' supervisor, apologized again, and asked if the charge could be reinstated.

I'm still embarrassed.

Julie

53. Thank you ...

As a person who deals with this kind of complaint on a daily basis, I want to thank you for actually calling back and apologizing.

There is one (1) way a cable box can "accidentally" charge a person for a PPV movie that this person didn't actually order, and if that happens, it is readily apparent to any (well trained) service rep looking at the account. It almost never happens, partly because most people don't realize how the charges for movies get billed. (I'm being intentionally vague here so as not to inadvertently give instructions.)

Several safeguards are in place to prevent accidental ordering of PPV movies, and several more are available to prevent certain kinds of content, or all content, from ever being ordered.

Brief anecdote:

I had a customer not too long ago who started complaining to me about her cable bill, said it was too high, that for the last several months we were constantly changing prices, and that she never knew what the bill would be from one month to the next. She just had basic cable, and $200 a month was just too much.

No shit.

So, I looked at her account history and noticed immediately that the reason for the high billing was the large number of PPV movies, most of them porn. I delicately informed her of this, and she just went off on me, basically accusing me of being the anti-Christ for even making the suggestion. "I'm just an old woman. Do you really think I ordered that? I want those charges taken off there, or I'm going to sue you." To make a long story short, after talking to her at length, it came out that her grandson had been living with her for several months and that he had moved in, coincidentally, at exactly the same time as the PPV charges started showing up. To her credit, when I led her to this realization, she stopped arguing, asked how to disable the purchases, and went on about her business. Took me 30 seconds to disable it, btw. It's a feature you can request at any time, no questions asked.

If so, you can set a lock on pay-per-view purchases by setting a PIN number. Go into Setup, then go into Locks Setup. You'll be able to set the PIN number there.

50. The PIN can be hacked.
When he was only slightly younger, my cousin went through all of the possible PIN numbers from 0000 to 9999, eventually finding the PIN number.

Quite amazing really, as he is notoriously lazy. Either that or his parents set up a low number as the PIN.

47. Because if no one paid for it, they'd have to stop making it!
And then where would we be? We'd all have to go to peep shows in seedy dives in the dark parts of town. The dark parts of town would grow, and crime would spread, and with it murder and mayhem. Next, women would start marrying snakes, lions would lie down with sheep, and soon... ARMEGEDDON!!! Or worse, that Def Lepperd song.

So save the world, pay for "Co-ed Nymphos!" Heck I think I'll have that put on a tee shirt.
