HUGE pet peeve. Gender assumptions.
My name is Tracy. I am a male.

Tracy has been a male name for more than 1000 years in Ireland, more than 2000 years in Greece, and somewhere in between in France.
In Greece, it means... one who tills the soil.
In France, it means...warlike.
In Ireland, it means... Pathfinder, or in gaelic "Tracer".

Then, in the 1950s, some WASPS decided to stick it one more time to the Irish and name all their girls after Irish male names, and then all Hell broke loose. Look at them...

Stacy
Carol
Sean
Shawn
Kelly
Lindsay
...the list goes on.
and of course...Tracy

When a girl gets named Deitrick, Costa, Ian, Jaques, Jesus, Niccoli, Seth, or Jason then I would see that it's not a conspiracy to castrate the Irish people. Until then, stop e-mailing, calling, knocking on my door or walking up to my desk, asking for Tracy .... "Is SHE there?" Putting up with this shit for so many years gets so IRRITATING, as well as "Tee Hee Hee...That's a girl's name!" (which only come from females. I've never heard a male say that ...EVER!) :grr:

And if the Irish definition is to stick to the name, then by all rights, women shouldn't be named Tracy in the first place, since they all have to ask for directions.

I curse God, because if it wasn't for his invention of alcohol, the Irish would've taken over the World!

1. Oh yeah, I can relate....
Nearly 35 years ago we named our sweet little red haired baby boy : Delaney. I, first, heard that name
as a male character in a Disney movie and always admired the Irish sound.

Now there are all these little girls running around named Delaney. One time I asked a
mother what she called her Delaney for 'short' and she answered Dela (pronounced as Della). I had to laugh out loud
because of all the pet names I have called my son...Dela never was one of them.

3. My sister-in-law named her first daughter Leland. Anyone...
ever heard that used as a girl's name?

My name is Gene (I hate it - I'm a junior), more often than not it gets spelled by others as 'Jean'.

I can relate.

Whenever I hear the name Kelly I assume it's a girl. But I always get a kick when it's a guy. Kelly is a damn sexy name for a man.

Tenors are women, and polite American manners suggests calling women ma'am. :hides:

35. I know a guy named Tracy.
On a side note, in college, I took History of Modern Ireland. We learned that whenever the Irish started meeting up without alcohol, the British got worried, because it meant they were about to do something big.

36. I thought this would be about the workplace
Because I've gotten that all MY life. Worked as a snowmobile mechanic - "Is he in?" "This is SHE."

Worked road construction - "Oh, are you a flagger?" (No, I was not - I was a grunt laborer and did the same job the men did).

Worked running heavy equipment - "Hey, where's the guy who runs this rig?" "SHE is right here."

Now I run a liquor department in a supermarket. I lift heavy cases all day. One day, some old piece of shit had the nerve to tell me that a man should be doing my job. I could have picked him up and thrown him over my shoulder without breaking a sweat.

And I'm part Irish. :toast:
