Liriano outpitches Clemens...changing of the guard?
Clemens still looked strong...but in Liriano we have a vision of a future superstar.

1. I loved this game tonight!
Liriano looked fantastic tonight. He did not let the Clemens mystique get to him at all!

2. Hard to believe he is only 22....
Santana - Liriano is a heck of a 1-2 punch...and it seem slike Radke and Silva have gotten into a bit of a groove as well...

Looks like Morneau will break the Twin's drough of no 30 HR hitters as well...

All in all...lookin up! May not be able to catch up to the Tigers and Sox this season, but watch out next...

Lets hope now that the Twins have their ballpark they step up and sign these guys to long term contracts!

3. From your mouth to Terry Ryan's ear!
I am loving this, even though it is not likely they will make the playoffs this year, at least they seem to have shaken their road woes.

4. GREAT game.
I was wondering how long it would take for Gardy to scrap the oldies and let the Youth Invasion take over, and ever since he gave in to it, they've been doing superb.

Mauer is Mauer
Morneau looks to be the power hitter the Twins have coveted for years
Kubel has great at-bats and hits for power
Cuddyer is becoming the player the Twins expected when they drafted him in the first round
Liriano is downright ridiculous and is having fewer and fewer lapses in judgment
Bartlett looks like a seasoned vet the way he's playing right now.

Add to that Santana and Silva in the rotation, Luis Castillo and perhaps a free agent third baseman with a decent bat, and we've got a heck of a ballteam. And a scary young one at that.

5. Liriano was outstanding...
Course you wouldn't know it from the headlines over at ESPN...all about Clemens!

6. When in the past has ESPN gotten it right?
It is either Spankmes - BoSox, Barry Bonds, Randy Johnson (see Spankmes), or Roger Clemens.

Hell, even Clemens in his press conference gave big ups to Liriano! Which I think is nearly unprecedented.

At least ESPN aired the game nationally. (We did not get the ESPN feed here in the Twin Cities - We got Dick N Bert on FSN-North - THANK the GODS).

Which crew did the ESPN game by the way?

7. Unfortunately I was stuck at work...
So had to listen to the 'CCO broadcast over mlb gameday audio...

Nice being able to listen to the home broadcast from here in Virginia!!!

ESPN is all about the scandalous sometimes...anything for ratings...

Seems like they devote less and less time to the actual sports...although Baseball Tonight is still pretty good!

9. I do like Baseball Tonight
Especially when Harold Reynolds is on. They do tend to focus more on the big market teams when they do the Touch Em All and Web Gems portions, but the rest of the coverage seems to be fairly balanced.

16. That pissed me off too.
As soon as Dick N Bert was over I turned it to ESPN and there was nothing but "Clemens didn't shine tonight, but he'll reach midseason form sooner rather than later" stuff. Nothing about the kid and his stellar pitching game.

If you'll notice the power rankings on Foxsports.com, the Twins have hopped up 7 spots to number 16 this week. The win streak done them good.

17. It's a bit better this morning...
Jayson Stark (one of my favorite baseball writers), has a good article on the MLB page at ESPN.com. All about Liriano...giving him his proper due!
