Anyone Ever Gotten a Phone Call Like this?

Call came in "out of area." When i picked up it was MCI jingle stating that I had a collect call. And then a voice said "Rick from Scarritt." And I hung up as I have no idea who a Rick from Scarritt could be.

Is this some kind of scam?

New ways to separate you from your money or solicit you . Read it somewhere recently.

7. They dial numbers in sequesnce, you don't need long distance

9. They've also found ways to hack into answering machines...

...that will get them to accept these calls. One friend of mine had it done to him and had about $1600 in fraudulent charges on his phone bill.

4. Yes, I have received a few collect calls from guys in prison.

I know they were in prison because a part of the pre-recorded message said so. How they got my unlisted, unpublished home number I will never know, so I presume it was random. But yeah, it happens.

10. I used to get a collect call from prison about once a week

a Mr. Shabazz, so maybe a black muslim (wasn't Malcolm X's surname Shabazz?) This was to my bookstore which had been written about in the Milwaukee paper. Directly after that I got a letter from a prisoner asking me if I could sell him or send him some porn. Maybe that was it, or maybe he just wanted books.
