1. You'd be ASTOUNDED by what you can hear watching
CBC's international coverage. Seriously. It isn't funny. If you ever needed proof that American "news" outlets are in bed with those in power watch The National for a week.

3. You forgot ABC Australia
They have some really good podcasts on the same level of the BBC and CBC.

My iPod is full of ABC Australia (Radio National/Radio Australia), BBC, and CBC podcasts. The amount of high quality world news on there is amazing.

8. Their media laws for one thing
While the same pushes are being made to privatize as much as possible, the government funded media (ABC.au, BBC, CBC) is still creditable and the population sees nothing wrong in it.

NPR and PBS have been under idological attack for the past couple of decades+ that the old stereotypes put on them are sticking and they are being undermined from all sides.

7. That dude rules.
Used to host "The New Music" and "The Punk Show" on Muchmusic. Two of a mere four shows worth watching on an otherwise awful station.

9. Are we talking about news output, or general quality of programming?
It's the BBC on both counts. Unfortunately only the domestic audience see BBC's Newsnight programme which is brilliant and not dumbed down in the least. It's certainly better than the world service news bulletins.

In terms of general programming, it's the BBC again. They make great factual programming and some great comedies.
