Edited on Sat Jun-17-06 01:50 PM by HypnoToad
I've yet to hear a single syllable regarding that and I apologize if I missed the proper messages saying where euphemisms describing men, juts like how "chick" is used to describe a woman were made.

I'll start with three male-centric epithets:

1. Dogs
2. Pigs
3. Children with paychecks

Sorry to apparently insult all the men in the world with this, but at least I've evened the score. :eyes:

Edited: Typo.

5. I'm not blaming you.
I'm the one who used "the new C-word" in the first place.

I had no idea I was going to be crucified by the women of DU because of it.

And it was not because of you I posted a thread, which is essentially saying "Turnabout is fair play. What names for men exist? Here are the ones I know about."

approximately 1972. Something about a place to "pick up chicks".

Since then there's been a lot of talk about "the new C-word" and I was the impetus behind it.

As such I feel I committed a cardinal crime.

13. Context
"picking up chicks" has an entirely different connotation than "meeting women"

No one wants to feel objectified.

14. don't take it so personally
It all started a discussion...and discussions are a good way of sharing ideas and perspectives. Look at it as an opportunity to learn and share, and don't assume anyone is going after you. That's certainly not the way I was reading it (and I am the queen of taking things personally ;))

15. Do apologies usually come with insults?
Saying that those who took offense showed hubris?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=5278262&mesg_id=5278351

"I must've offended all of womankind. (now I understand how wars start... being absent minded with words combined with too much hubris on the part of the recipients, and kaboom. It does take two to tango.)"

That's pretty funny.... "too much hubris on the part of the recipients"

Chick is a fine word... taken in the right context. But you know that, don't you?

16. I say we go with "dicks."

Seriously. Think about it:

1. It rhymes,

2. it meets the one-syllable criteria, and

3. it's (apparently) equally offensive.

What do I win?

:bounce:

"chick flicks" and I've personally used the variation "dick flicks" because it rhymes and also describes perfectly the action, horror, thriller, Kung Fu, dumb-ass scripted movies we're expected to see.

Let's see if anyone else uses this expression ---

If you put "dick flicks" into Google, there are lots of people using this.

I wouldn't dwell on it too much.

In peace,

Simply put, they don't care; we're talking hugh obese rodent's backside here . As they see it, everything was created for their benefit. I would say they're the ultimate Repug, but that would be insulting.

Having to heavily police your speech around middle class women helps keep them isolated, so they are not a threat to the men.
