After he was removed from the starting rotation, Perez discontinued the "O's 45" charitable program he funded and then said he would no longer buy 45 tickets to send inner-city kids to Dodgers games — even though he got his starting job back.

"When you spend your own money you want to be recognized for that," Perez was quoted as saying in the Riverside newspaper.

What an asshat!

The writer of the story gave him the kind of attention he truly deserves.

4. Funny
Earlier tonight a friend and I were IMing while listening to the game, and when the Dodgers brought Perez in to pitch in the seventh (by which time they were getting mashed 8-1), my friend said, "So Perez is a mop-up man now?"

Perez has been really inconsistent — he'd throw a five-hitter when he was starting, then get jacked up his next time out — so I figured that was it. But after reading this, I'm reminded that ball clubs do make moves for PR reasons. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if he were traded or waived pretty soon.
