When your spouse, SO is away on business
what do you do with your time? How much does your routine change?

Do you enjoy it or have trouble getting through it?

27. I don't sleep well either -
in fact, I can't sleep unless I sleep on my husband's side of the bed! :-)

2. I don't sleep well
so I get a lot done. Plus, I don't feel the need to cook an extraordinary meal.

I usually clean closets and dressers when my SO is out of town. :D

3. My standards of Diet and Hygiene definitely decline...
I end up sitting around the house in my underwear
eating nothing but fried things.

4. We watch the movies the other would hate.
He'll watch anime and Kill Bill while I'm away at the end of the month, and when he's gone, I watch art flicks and documentaries. I make fish and shellfish; he makes fried balogna and heart-attack sandwiches (fried eggs with bacon on buttered toast.) And we have long, romantic phone calls and great *** when we're reunited.

It's good to have space in a marriage. Anyone who says otherwise is not an introvert married to another introvert (or is delusional...)

5. Routine changes drastically
Can't sleep well. Don't eat well. Hang out online more. And I do get more done around the house, amazingly. I must get really bored!

I enjoy it in small doses, but would go insane if there were too much.

Hope you're getting through it ok.

9. Haven't seen you in ages
Hope all is well.

This is a new development with his new job. I went the last time and the company even paid me to temp. I drop him off tomorrow at the airport, but I'll be working every night until he comes home Wednesday. Then, it's off for another few days.

No trips are scheduled for July. We'll see how long that lasts.

11. All is indeed well
I hope the same can be said for you.

If you're working while he is gone, it will probably not seem like he is gone long.

I already have a hard enough time sleeping, but if he isn't in the bed... I might as well just forget about it.

8. Well, in the past, I snapped into Betty Crocker/Martha Stewart mode.
The house ended up clean and I went on a baking frenzy.

My SO hasn't left for the night since we moved in together, so I'll have to see what happens when he does.

10. My DH is gone a lot on business
The latest thing I've done while he's been traveling is to write a 100,000 word novel. I wish I could motivate myself to clean while he's gone, but I hate housework.

I also do some of the other things mentioned in the thread -- rent movies he doesn't necessarily care for, go out to dinner with my girlfriends, the usual stuff.

13. Can't sleep right...
Its weird. My wife and I have been, hmm..probably havne't slept together, for ...4 times, in the past couple years, and each time, i get insomnia badly. Its like, ...well, trying to go to sleep, when you know you got a big day the following day, my mind drifts all over the place...

Its weird, never been that way in the past...with my other gf's....

I'm just more likely to order crappy takeout since he tends to do most of the cooking right now. Other than missing him, not a lot of routine changes.

20. The toilet seat stays up
I devote as much time as possible to things I enjoy that she doesn't enjoy: televised sports, war movies and video games. The only change in routine is that my mornings are shorter because I have to walk the dogs. I don't really enjoy it but I manage. I suspect she'll hire a housekeeper the next time she leaves me unsupervised though. :)

22. Sorry to hear that
I dropped him off EARLY this morning and came home and slept until I came into work, where I'm at now until after midnight. I work every night until he comes home on Wednesday, so it should go quickly.

We have a dog now, so that helps.

Where is your lovely wife and when does she return?

24. We are for now - we must support Ned Lamont
But we will be changing residencies for a while to help with tuition.

Things are fantastic out here - but I say that cause I'm the one in school not the one working 2 jobs.

How's things with you and the fam?

28. We're doing fine, thanks
Though, we are hoping to get out of the sticks east of the river eventually... (maybe moving to SW of Hartford?) on the bright side, I will at least get to vote against Rob Simmons if I'm still here in 6 months.

I was unsure about Lamont until Lieberman refused to rule out a run as an independent if he lost the primary. I had feared somebody like Nancy Johnson or Chris Shays entering the race at the last minute if Lieberman lost... but, since Joe can't commit to abiding by the decision of Democrats, there is no way I can vote for him.

aren't you coming up on your 1st anniversary in the near future, or did it already pass? (I think being a father has caused my IQ to drop 10 points and my memory to go down the tubes...so, I'm not sure of the date)

33. Don't rush into parenthood!
you two are still young - get out & see the world a bit. it's a lot harder to do if you have a little one with you (though, we did bring her all the way to China when she was 18 months old)

26. I catch up on my DVDs
Watch those usually crappy B action movies & sci-fi movies that I don't get a chance to watch when my wife is around and my 3 year old goes to sleep...

I eat less Chinese food when my wife is away on business, too!

If I have a few hours to myself, I can crank up something like "Lord of the Rings" on the Home Theater System.

Other than that, my routine is pretty much the same, as I tend to take care of our daughter more than my wife does.

32. he's away all the time, this trip is 3 weeks, then home for a week and
gone again for an entire month. I would say my routine is a little different when he's gone, i cook less, watch more movies and in general the house is a whole lot cleaner. the really bad part is during the weekends, thats when my daughter really misses doing stuff with him or with us as a family.

What does he do? Is this normal or the routine schedule? How long has it/will it last?

My husband will be home less than a week and they gone again for a few more days. He doesn't have anything scheduled YET for July.

Eat weird stuff he doesn't enjoy at times he might not like meals served. Watch chick flicks when tired, pace around late at night and feel mopey. Sleep with HIS pillow and a tee shirt outta the hamper so I have his scent.
