Note to self: Playing the piano happens best when you're AWAKE.
Stupid-ass procrastination...I have a recital on, oh, Sunday, and though I can play my two songs just fine, I need to bust through them several times (try like 30 per song!) before then. So I figured I'd bust off a few rounds tonight...only I didn't sit down at the keys until 8:45 or 8:50 EST, and just got off 'em at 9:15. Not even a full half-hour.....Not good. A GOOD practice session for me is at least 35-40 mins.

Why did I get off so early? I was falling asleep at the keys. My mind started to wander, so that my fingers repeatedly went in about 14 different directions--and not together, melodically, either. I must've sounded like I was on crack and trying to play. :D Clearly I cannot connect to the piano when I'm half asleep. And they say if you just can't get it, can't get any real rhythm, can't feel any usual "oneness" at all with the instrument, don't force it; just step away from the keys and let them be. So I stepped away.

Now I feel guilty and sad and annoyed and frustrated. PLUS, I have a whole host of things to do this weekend BESIDES practice--namely, study for the two finals I have Monday (geometry and science, the stupidest subjects ever and on the same day, of course :grr:).

Fuck it all to hell.

:grr:

1. You have my sympathy.
I had a similar experience last month when I had several piano and vocal recitals within a short period of time. I've discovered that being nervous makes me forget what I'm doing on the piano, too. And you're right. Being awake helps. :D

2. I had a feeling this would happen to me, too...
I said, "I'm going to be falling asleep playing..." And wouldn't you know it: I was!

Now I'm mildly depressed because usually I feel a sense of accomplishment after banging away for even a few minutes. Now I feel like a failure.

:( :(

7. Sorry sweetie, and good luck.

I'm sure you'll do fabulously at your recital.

I got a D in high school geometry. That stuff went right over my head. :D
