I went to school with this girl. She's now a Doctor, just got a Gov-gen award of excellence and may be getting her own show on the discover channel... Plus, she turned out uber-cute. My buddy used to date her.... I bet he's kicking himself for breaking up with her now.

Jennifer Gardy — make that Dr. Jennifer Gardy — isn’t sure yet whether she’ll create her own Discovery channel show or pursue microbiology research in her own university lab. For now, she’s basking in the glow of the Governor General’s gold award and her newly acquired PhD from Simon Fraser University.

The 26-year-old, who graduated from Port Moody Secondary in 1996, is one of two award recipients graduating from SFU this year. The honour, which she’ll receive at convocation ceremonies today (Friday), is given to students with the highest academic standing. Gardy earned one for her top marks in completing her doctorate in molecular biology and biochemistry. Her studies centred on the relatively new field of bioinformatics.

“It involves ways of using technology and ideas from the field of computer science to answer questions in biology,” she explained. Her success is even more remarkable given that Gardy has never taken a computer science class"
