Pee-Wee Herman coming to Adult...
Swim.

Boy, who's running the programming there? First Saved by the Bell, now Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

At least the Korgoth of Barbaria premiere was entertaining.

1. I remember an article in Rolling Stone years ago....
about Pee-Wee and his show. After a short stint on HBO, the show was picked up by the networks. They gave him a list of three things he absolutely could not do on the show (shoe mirrors, for example)

He did all three by the fifth show :patriot:

Will this air on MTV or another cable channel? I don't know what Adult Swim is.

Answer: Cartoon Network! :)

Adult Swim Reopens 'Pee-wee's Playhouse'
Show will join AS lineup in July

Published June 5, 2006

Adult Swim is bringing another show populated by flesh-and-blood actors to its late-night world, but this one fits a little better into the cartoon landscape.

Starting Monday, July 10, "Pee-wee's Playhouse" will join the Adult Swim weeknight lineup. Cartoon Network's late-night alter ego plans to air all 45 episodes of the half-hour series, plus a 1988 Christmas special that has rarely seen the light of day since its initial airing.

...snip...

Paul Reubens, who created Pee-wee as a member of the L.A. comedy troupe the Groundlings in the late 1970s, pronounces himself delighted to be part of Adult Swim: I'd say this was a dream come true, but I never dared to dream the 'Playhouse' would join Adult Swim's amazing lineup of cool shows!" he says. "Well, maybe I did dream of it a couple of times. OK, it's a dream come true!"

"Pee-wee's Playhouse" as part of CBS' Saturday-morning lineup in 1986 and ran off and on for five years. The candy-colored show featured animation and sketch comedy aimed at kids; Phil Hartman, Laurence Fishburne and "Law & Order" star S. Epatha Merkerson all played recurring characters.

4. Cartoon Network.
It's their evening programming block for a (slightly) more mature audience.

10. Pee-wee's playhouse rocked

Phil Hartman was a writer and, of course played Cowboy Carl. It's where Laurence Fishburne and Jimmy Smits and Sandra Bernhard all got their start. The show won SIX Emmys in its first season! And Cyndi Lauper sang the theme!

Another VERY interesting piece of trivia: The concept for the show actually came from Andy Kaufman with his co-writer Bob Zmuda, who dubbed it "Andy's Funhouse". It was based of Kaufman's experiences doing children's birthday parties and performing for children (the "scream the secret word" game came from Kaufman himself; he had done a similar thing as a birthday party game). But he developed lung cancer and was unable to do the show. Before Kaufman's death, Reubens got permission from Kaufman to do it himself.

I, for one, can't WAIT!!

9. I loved Pee-Wee's Playhouse!
When my kids were very young, I made a point of finding some of the shows on VHS. So, they are fans, too.

Give it a chance...it's wonderfully creative and fairly subversive of the status quo.

15. Oh, I've seen it.
Love it, actually. I'm a big fan of the movie, too.

I'm just questioning its placement in the Adult Swim lineup.

16. You think that's bad?
The Cartoon network is putting on a series, where the "heros" are all racial stereotypes.
I'm dead serious.
