Mike, my husband had a cardiac catheterization this morning and they detected severe blockage which will necessitate open heart surgery. I know surgeons are supposed to tell you the worst case scenario, but this one really piled on the bad news.

Hopefully, the surgery will be tomorrow and Please God, let him survive it.

so i kinda know what you guys are facing..i`ll say he`s got a great chance of recovering to better health than he was before. it will take a lot of therapy to get him "up and running" again but it`s all worth it..good luck and be sure to tell us how he`s doing...you know you can always count on your friends here...

Want to hear a weird spiritual story? Now, I should give you a little background information: I have distrusted doctors since my mother's death (don't worry, it was not open heart surgery) to the point where I went 8 years without even having a physical.

Here it goes...

When my husband had surgery to correct his septum (too many years of soccer), I found a little chapel hidden in the corner of the hospital. There was a bible there. So, without knowing what I'd turn to, I opened it up thinking maybe I could find some guidance. You may not believe this, but the passage talked about "trust thy phisician...." And, there was no bookmark or bent page or anything like that. Coincidence? I don't think so! It was exactly what I needed at that moment. And, the surgeon was terrific...everything went great, and my dear hubby can breath better today!

He is scheduled for surgery on Thursday. Tomorrow they are going to do some sort of procedure which I have never heard of to give his heart some rest until Thursday.

The surgeon says it will increase his chances of survival.I hope to God he is right.

I'm sure you know that open heart surgeries are much more successful now than they ever have been. And as far as surgeons piling on the bad news...try not to be too alarmed. Posting as an ex medical risk management specialist, sometimes they're just thinking about their liability when they "give it to you straight" like that. Plus, they want you to be sooooo grateful when your family member or partner pulls through just fine. Which I'm sure he will. Surgeons love to look like big heroes.

He needed to have a quadruple bypass, but he is off the bypass machine, so his heart is beating by itself.

He is still on the ventilator, and probably will be for at least another day. They are monitoring him for stroke, bleeding, etc.,

His surgeon is a genius, but dear God, he paints the grimmest picture. He said Mike's heart was very, very weak and at this point he isn't sure what he will be able to do and not do.

I am going to take a nap.

My dad had the exact same thing 5 years ago. His doctors also painted his future as very bleak. He's doing fine and would be doing MUCH better if he'd eat right and exercise. You gotta crack that whip and make sure Mike does so.
