1. Wow...
I haven't been to a drive in movie in so long, I can't remember the last time. They tore down the last one here more than ten years ago...and put up a fuckin' Wal Mart in its place

Just thinking about it brings back memories...

I hope y'all had a wonderful time.

:hi:

16. I really wish they'd open another one here...
They used to have to shut down in the winter though, and that made it tough.

Still...there's nothing like going to the drive-in on a warm summer night. Man, I miss it.

*sigh*

19. This one stays open at winter.
But I am sorry I will not sit in 20 degree temps to watch a movie.

21. Heh...you and most everyone else, too...
I'm sure that's why they used to shut ours down in the winter. Doesn't make what it takes to operate.

What did you see?

I think you had to wait a while for the movie to start!

5. You have to go early, they fill up fast. That was about 7:30 PM.
We saw "Over The Hedge" and "R.V."

Both were excellent and funny movies.

But it is ok to wait is ok. The food is AWESOME and it is not priced as high as normal theaters.

7. Yeah, what we old timers used to do...
I remember getting in my PJs and going to the drive in and laying in the back of the station wagon watching the movie.

9. What are station wagons?
Okay, I'm teasing even more on that one! :) I've never been to a working drive-in, but I remember seeing one of them in Biloxi as a kid in the 70s. Guess I just missed the era. Or maybe just no one in their right mind would want to sit in an un-air conditioned car in 90 degree weather with 80% humidity. Maybe it was regional.

11. It was not to bad.
It was in the 90's here but there was a good breeze that made it enjoyable.

There was a huge wreck on US-84 south of town. But hey we got to see New Mexico as it blew by.

24. LOL
We had a freak dust storm in Austin sometime around then, and it may have been related. It rolled in from the northwest, surprising everyone. It's still the only one I've ever seen in person.

6. OMG We went last night to the drive - in theatre here!
Took the little one to see "Over the Hedge". Would have stayed for the MI3 but the little one was too wide awake (didn't think MI3 was good fare for the 4 year old).

but MI3 had the prospect of being too violent for the kiddo.

18. Actually I think this drive in banks on the families leaving
and the teenagers coming in for the second feature...

It only has one screen.

There are two in our region, one shows a triple feature, the other a double. Both are single screen.

I had not been to the drive-in for years, but my husband really loves it (and I do too now), so we go a few times each summer.

20. Some people left after the first.
But, most stayed. This one has two screens and is building a third one. My wife and I enjoyed it, and will be going back. HELL it was cheaper than going to a sit down place, and then dinner.

My sister was ramp manager, and I and anyone else in the car got in free.

I had a lotta friends in those days.

25. Here is a link that lists Drive-In theatres in the US
Most, alas, are listed as DARK (defunct). But there are some open in the listings.

This site lists Drive-ins by state.

None near enough to me to make it a regular thing, but I Do think it's something that might be worth taking the kids to.

Well, provided they don't kill each other...

I think it is cool that they have a website!

Concession prices look really cheap, considering you are a captive audience.

30. Granbury?
my friend was there last night and he was telling us some folks drove up with a pickup that had two couches in the back which they sat on to watch the movie

My college town in KY had three drive ins..two of them showed triple features on Friday and Saturday nights. Great fun, cheap date. We paid by the car, not the person.

It is 5 bucks a head. Kids under 5 get in free. It is still cheaper than the normal theaters. Yeah people brought chairs and some had air mattresses in the back that they laid down on to watch. It was a lot of fun.

31. I saw my first lesbian encounter on the Drive in Screen.....
Ah memories...

Kind of awkward sitting with three other dudes, all stoned and drunk enjoyin' a biker type movie that all of a sudden had a lesbian scene....

The car got real quiet.....

And then we lit up another joint....

And no one said a word....

We would sneak in other kids in the trunk of the car, because not everyone had the price of a ticket.
