Stopping virus processes
Every time i start up this computer, i have to bring up the task manager
and i fight a war with all these viruses that keep starting up.

First, after booting, i kill ipodhelp and ipodsomething else that pig out on
memory when i don't even have a fucking ipod. Then i have to kill realshed,
and justsched, and this new virus called "MsMpEng.exe" that i have to kill
every time my machine gets slow, and "sunServer.exe" that at least stays dead
when i kill it.

Is there a way to stop these goddam programs from starting and taking over my
memory space with their virus attacks. ??

1. Maybe
1. Find them and uninstall the program, if possible
2. Use the System Config Utility and go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck those items

The system config utility is "where"? I dont' see it in the control panel.

I'm very upset that all these programs take the liberty to pig out on my memory
just 'cuz i tried to play a video or a song in their format...

Uninstall is not included... they're just 1 way viruses.

(ps on edit, thank you for any assistance, really, thanks)

4. Oh sorry
Well, I use Win98 so I can only say how to find it in this -- Start >> Run >> type in: msconfig

If you're using WinXP, not sure how to get it, but I know you can -- try that, maybe it's the same

6. Thank you
msconfig! It works! I wonder what some of these
things are, but that helps a lot for these annoying
startup windows and applications installed by eager
family members wishing to listen to internet tunes and
videos.

7. You're welcome, glad you found it
It's a good thing to try and know as much as you can about what your computer is doing at startup, because as you've discovered, there are a lot of memory hogs that just start themselves up even though you may only rarely need or use them.

But, of course, you have to also be careful that you don't turn off some process that your system needs to function. If in doubt, google the name of the file or process that is starting, and you should be able to learn whether it's valid or necessary. If you accidentally disable something you needed and your system won't start normally, start it up in safe mode and then enable that process and reboot (I think that's correct...)

5. Those are not viruses ...

They are not attacks. These are services started by legitimate programs.

Regarding the first, at some point the iTunes software has been installed on your computer. You don't need an iPod for that to be there. Even if the iTunes software has been uninstalled, those services could still be there, partly because the uninstall process in Windoze is idiotic. Make sure the software is uninstalled, clean the registry, etc.

The next two are a bit humorous in this context.

MsMpEng.exe is part of Windows Defender, MS's crappy anti-spyware product. If you don't want it running, dump Defender completely. You'll probably have to do some registry cleaning to get rid of it completely.

SunServer is a part of the Counterspy software package, another anti-spyware program, which is actually pretty good. For it to work the way it is supposed to work SunServer must be running. If you don't want it to run, get rid of Counterspy.
