I SUSPECT I Got Screwed AGAIN!!
WELL... wonders will never cease! Now, I can't PROVE I'm getting screwed, but when it comes to TEA... I've made my share of it by the gallons. Probably each week I make a gallon of tea or more and I ALWAYS buy LIPTON! I'm talking years and years of buying Lipton after trying other brands! My husband is a southern guy and likes his iced tea, I prefer juices or water.

So over the past several months, my husband has been asking me "what is wrong with this tea?" So I checked to see that I simmered it correctly, measured the sugar correctly and that I strained the bags through an extra filter correctly.... many many times now, and still he's asking "what's wrong with this tea?"

Since I rarely DRINK the tea I make, I can't figure it out. So a couple of days ago he actually got kind of mad and wanted to know if I was slipping and making "bad" tea! I finally asked him, "what is WRONG with the tea?" He says "it's very weak, doesn't seem like it's strong enough!" So yesterday I made a fresh batch of tea and threw in 2 more tea bags, didn't change my water amount, not even the amount of sugar and guess what?? He liked the tea! Said it was back to normal!

So the only conclusion I can come up with is that THEY are putting less tea in the little bags, and THEY are lying to me about the total weight of 100 bags of tea in a box. I looked at my box, and I didn't see a "New & Improved" stamp on it so I guess I don't have a leg to stand on because of that. New & Improved ALWAYS means SOMETHING (usually a smaller amount) so essentially I'm just going to have to live with getting "less tea for my buck!" Now doesn't that just frost your cake??

Of course, we could always do another Tea Party. Anyone up for a game of DUMP THE TEA, again??? Viva La Revolution!

:eyes:

5. Yeah... Can't Prove It... Like All The Rest Of The Crap!
And you're correct, there is so much more to worry about.

There is a weight on the box though, but it's a new box... so I can't compare it to the old box... etc., etc.!

It was just a TEA thing... you know Boston and all. It kind of gave me ideas. But I betcha a dollar there's less in the bag!!

2. Is there a total weight on the box, or just a tea bag count?
I would think that is the only way you could check.

9. Even if the weight were constant, could have used a heavier package
i.e., same # of bags, same weight, less tea, but a heavier grade of paper to make up for it. I can't imagine that the savings per box would be huge, but even at a dime per, we might just be talking a few million $$...

4. Its always the little things that are the most annoying....

I laugh only because we were having the same problem with our Sun tea... had to put an extra bag in the gallon to make it right. It just torqued my screws a bit too tight.

10. A pet peeve of mine too
Like the giant size candy bars that are the size dime candy bars used to be. Minimum wage was $1.60 in 1969. If we just pegged the minimum wage to the price of candy bars, stamps or pay phone calls; it'd be $16.00 an hour. Wages drive prices up, yeah, right, you betcha.

13. The bags are not the same.
I have been drinking tea my whole life, I love strong Tea. I noticed Lipton's not tasting right a while ago. I started putting 2 bags in one cup of hot tea. I tried the cheap tagless ones from the dollar store & they tasted just the same as the Lipton's so I now use the cheap ones but more of them. You are right though, they did change the the weight of the bag a while back, I also think they slightly changed the blend.

Time for a change... but there's still that Revolution thing out there!

I guess they're just going to leave it up to the little guy again. Back to the drawing board... I might have to choose another brand.

17. What about buying loose tea and using one of those tea balls?
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 03:27 PM by BrklynLiberal
At least then you will know that all you will be paying for is the tea, and you will always know what you will be paying per pound...for the tea, only.
