I think I'm gonna go make some White Trash Pizza.
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 12:27 PM by haruka3_2000
My mom used to make it for me and I still get cravings for it sometimes...

Take a couple pieces of white bread, put a slice of American on top, smear some tomato "sauce" from a tiny can on it, sprinkle some oregano and pop into the toaster oven.

:9

On edit: No, I'm not. There's no American cheese here. Oddly enough, we have gorgonzola. What is my house coming to?

1. A higher caste of white trash
We used English Muffins in my house. And when available, Mozerella.

2. We used English Muffins when we had them.
The other night my mom actually brought home the same tv dinner for everyone so that it was "like a family dinner." We declared her Peggy Bundy, except without the boobs and big red hair.

5. We used to do that, too!
Actually, it was fun for the kids because we each got to make our own, just like we liked it.

3. Gorgonzola?
My ex's mom used to make this with gorgonzola: take loaf of French bread, cut thick slices, smear with gorgonzola, drizzle with honey, then broil for a minute or two. Delicious!

4. That sounds really good, except we only have Wonder bread.
I will make that sometime though.

6. In our house it was
"pizza on bun." They even served them at my elementary school! Spread hamburger bun halves with butter and sprinkle with garlic powder. Add tomato sauce and a slice o' American. Put in oven until cheese bubbles turn brown. I still do this once in awhile when I don't want to fuss with a meal. Still tastes like when I was a kid. :hi:

7. I would have sworn White Trash Pizza involved Velveeta,
Bisquick and a can of Ro-tel tomatoes. But what do I know, I'm Italian.

8. Do people really eat Velveeta? I've never seen Ro-tel tomatoes either.
I much prefer real pizza, but I didn't feel like leaving the house and there wasn't really any food in the house. I ended up eating an Amy's Cheddar Broccoli pot pie.

17. Sometimes vegetables become restless in the pot;
Velveeta calms them down.

25. I'm still not convinced it's a food item.
I have never seen someone consume Velveeta, nor have I seen Velveeta in someone's home.

9. Ro-Tel's only for special occasions.
Not kidding. A coworker once told me that Ro-tel dip is only for weddings, showers, and the "Big Four" holidays(Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and the Super Bowl).

I've worked w/ some interesting people in the past.

10. Wow. I'm used to crab-stuffed anything, avocado salads, etc for
special occaisions. I guess my family's really high-class or something. Although our big four Holidays (in order of importance) are: Super Bowl, Christmas, Thanksgiving, WML Festival Day.

11. You haven't met some of my coworkers.
Ro-tel dip: Ro-tel, Velveeta and pork sausage.

I vomit every time I smell it.

I find that disturbing...shit like that is what keeps me from in the North Jersey/NYC area.

they'll substitute the pork for venison sausage.

16. Actually, I personally have less issues with venison than pork.
I respect people that kill and clean what they eat much more than people that get a steak from the supermarket and claim they could "never kill an animal."

30. I can respect it
but it tastes even more revolting in the Ro-tel dip.

Flavors that should not be mixed together.

22. Really?
Ro-tel and Valveeta is how you make nacho dip...at least in SE Texas...whenever anyone comes to visit us here in the UK, the admission fee is a brick of Valveeta and a couple of cans of Ro-Tel. Not kidding....!

23. We use real cheddar, peppers, tomatoes, etc.
And I'm in NJ. Personally, I always expected TX would make a nacho dip with real ingredients. Weird.

26. Well, Valveeta/RoTel
is the quick and dirty way ;-)
How often in say a given month would someone outside of Tx have nachos? I wonder if it's because it's such a common thing to eat, at least in Houston, that you don't mind a quickie method. You can't swing a cat in Houston without hitting a Mexican (well, Tex/Mex) restaurant, so you don't go to a lot of effort to be authentic when eating at home...or maybe Mrs Kentish Man and I are just lazy :)

28. I don't get it.
What the fuck is Ro-tel? I have never heard of it. Velveeta, I am familiar with. My mother used to buy it when I was a kid. The sight of the box is enough to make my stomach roil.

29. It's canned diced tomatoes.
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 07:46 AM by Pithlet
I think there may be spices and onions and other things in there, too. I've only ever had it in a cheese dip. I hadn't heard of Ro-tel until I moved to the South. It was a requisite ingredient in dips brought to the office pot lucks. ETA picture:

12. I had toaster pizza today, myself!
Thomas' Bagelbread (Bagels! Only square! What'll they think of next?!) with a smear of sauce from a jar and slices of Maggio mozzarella, doctored up with a smidgen of oregano. It's a nice break from tuna and peanut butter.(My palate is compatible with that of a seven year old.)

And somebody mentioned Ro-tel--I make chili with that. :) Sprinkle a little shredded Velveeta on top and you've got good eating. (Okay I fib. I use cheddar, not Velveeta.)

14. My mom bought the bagelbread because they were square "bagels."
I don't get it. We have a deli a mile away with really good bagels, why get the Thomas bagelbread? It's not like we're in some god-forsaken place where they don't make real bagels.

18. I've made that since I was a teenager
I use English muffins when I have them, or toast when I don't. I prefer shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese over American, but will use the American in a pinch. If I have some veggie pepperoni I'll throw a few slices of that on. :9

19. Veggie Pepperoni is good.
Have you tried the Boca rising crust pizzas? They suck! I used to like their pizzas, but now that they're rising crust, it seems you can't bake them enough. I was burning the top and the rest was raw dough. I was very disappointed, because I liked having veggie supreme pizza.

20. I like them actually
I've never had any other type of Boca pizza so I don't have anything to compare them to, so perhaps that's why I don't dislike them though.

21. It just seemed like since they made them "rising crust"...
you can somehow follow the directions, burn the top and still end up with raw dough. I'm a fan of the Amy's (especially their corn-crust pizzas). They're pretty price comparable too.

24. Holy provolone!
I thought I was the only one who made this!

I used to, years ago — but I added sliced hot-dog bits. Called it "Bachelor's Pizza." :9

And I love gorgonzola. :bounce:

27. I bet it would be good with Gorgonzola!
We used to do the same thing here, but we called it "Poor Man's Pizza"...It went along with "Poor Man's Chowder" which was noodles in warmed up milk. That is still comfort food for me. :)
