Mea Culpa about Nomar Garciaparra...
I thought he was finished, and that the Dodgers were wasting their time putting him on first this year... Heh. Heh. Good for them, and for Nomar--and shows what I know. But as an old Sox fan, who's very appreciative of seeing a great player on our team for many years, I'm delighted to be wrong...:-)...

2. Oroles according to Nomar were the team he would have gone
to if his hometown Dodgers hadn't offered him a deal. Nomar would be a huge upgrade over Jeff Conine and Kevin Millar. It's nice to see a guy get a second chance though.

3. I gotta admit, I was skeptical
But he sure fooled me.

He went 3 for 5 today with two doubles. He's hitting .369, slugging .624. Has 18 doubles, six homers, 38 RBI — and that's in 38 games (149 at-bats). And he's hitting something like .470 with runners in scoring position.

Oh... and he's made only one error at his new position.

5. We love Nomie and hate Jim Hendry for trading him. I'll never forget his
adorable little leap after fielding a ball and about to throw it to the first baseman.

6. I thought it was a great trade from the beginning
I had to counter a lot of bullcrap from jealous Angels fans that once his injuries heal, watch out.

Then we went and swept them in the Freeway Series recently. Sweet vindication.

7. Glad NOmar's OK butthe Dodgers can't have Maddox (rumors in today's Trib).

I'd have to approve the trade and I won't.

8. Whaa...?
We got four solid starters now — Penny, Lowe, Tomko and Sele. Why do we need another right-hander?

9. I'd gladly trade Penny for him
After his little tirade recently when he was deservedly relieved, we could do without another Milton Bradley-type pinhead.

Haven't heard the rumor myself, but it is tasty.

10. Oh, come on
Penny was righteously pissed because he didn't get a chance at the W. Yeah, he needed to be pulled, but I don't blame him for being mad. Most of it was probably directed at himself for giving up six straight hits, anyway.

Bradley was a hothead, but he was a hothead who produced with the bat and the glove. And he did the anger-management thing, so I give him credit.

11. Just saying that
In case the Maddox rumors are true. Keeping Penny is okay by me... but a chance at Maddox... well, that could help us cement the West before August.

Just speaking as a frustrated fan impatient for Arizona to fall. :D

12. I don't *wanna* cement the West by August
I live for September and a two-radio pennant race. :bounce:

I wouldn't mind having Maddux. I'd just worry about what we'd have to give up. And, like I said, I can't see adding another right-hander to the rotation.

13. Vin speaks!
Right now... previewing Game 4 of the Philly series, starting in a few.

Now that Gagne is back, I am less worried about the bullpen, but that is what I would like more insurance for.

If we do get Maddox, that means we will probably dump a right-hander too. But I wouldn't worry about that rumor... the game thrives on them this time of year.

14. How'd the Phillies score?
I was in the kitchen and heard Vinny say Drew's error allows a run.
