So where will you be vacationing this summer?
I'll be resuming my DU-posting break to go to Charleston, SC this month. I'm anxious to try that seafood and Southern grits.

1. I'll be up in CT a bunch.
which means a lot of striper fishing, tubing so fast I'll suffer some sort of injury almost daily, tanning, and pulling up to the fanciest yachts in Stone Harbor, RI to say, "Pardon me, but do you have any Grey Poupon?" then jetting off in my small, but fast boat.

3. BERLIN! And possibly Rome and Prague.
Mr BAL has been business-tripping there a lot and loves it, so the BAL family is going.

Counting the days, hours, minutes...

16. I hear ya there
I had to burn all my leave time last year for my hospital stay & recovery (didn't qualify for FMLA yet), and it looks like they'll make me burn what little sick/vac time I have now before I DO qualify for FMLA.

I really hate being sick. It's a pain in the ass. :)

22. England!
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 09:06 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
My first trip over the Atlantic since I was a senior in high school (which is before most of you DUers were born).

I'll spend the first 11 days with a tour group from my church attending a music festival and seeing some of the sights of London. Then I'll have ten days on my own with a BritRail pass. :7

So far, I know I want to go to Canterbury, Bath, York, and Oxford and/or Cambridge. I just haven't figured out in what order. :-)

I've been reading guidebooks like crazy. I'm a firm believer in reading guidebooks before visiting a foreign country because:

1) It answers all the FAQs. (e.g. "What is there to see in London?" "What kind of money do they use in England?" etc.)

2) It answers all the questions you didn't know you had. ("Oyster card?")

3) It gives you the historical and cultural background of the places you're going to see. (I already know a fair amount about English history, but it helps to have reminders about what sights can still be seen.)

4) It gives you an idea of the price ranges you can expect to find. ("Ooh, England looks expensive. I think I'll stick to B&B's.")

34. Just hanging around the Pacific Northwest. Will be up to Seattle
a few times, will probably hit the ocean once or twice, and the Columbia Gorge, but mostly I'll just be in Portland, working on the weekdays.

No real vacation until November, when I hope to get a couple weeks to bounce around Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Manzanillo, that part of Mexico.

Have a good time in Charleston.

39. Wife and I used to go to Charleston once a year
left our kids with their Grandparents in Wilmington, NC and drove down 17, through Myrtle Beach, down to Charleston. One of the world's finest Restaurant cities, for real. also have some cool experimental theatre, a decent art house cinema and good live music.

There's a place, I forget the name, but they have great beignets, up near the courthouse....

my 40 high school reunion.

In September, I am hoping that the 3 of us (husband, daugher and I ) will head down to Port Aransas/Corpus Christi area for a week. I have a friend who will rent us her beach house for the week. It is all about coordinating the days off.
