There! little girl; don't cry!
They have broken your doll, I know;
And your tea-set blue,
And your play-house, too,
Are things of the long ago;
But childish troubles will soon pass by. --

James Whitcomb Riley. I'm not sure if he wrote both of these but my mother used to read to us "The Raggedy Man" and "Little Orphan Annie came to our house to stay" (which is really funny and really spooky at the same time.

I hope you have an excellent weekend and that June is a very fine month for you.

5. My dear RetroLounge.......

I have read this author before....and he is good, in a sort of sentimental way.....

Ooops.....I was mixing him up with James Russell Lowell! Similar styles, to my eyes at least!

This poem looks to be a progression from little girl to adult....

While all the time, someone is trying to comfort her, even though it comes across as belittling....

But that's how people treated women, esp. women who have faced loss, no matter how trivial.

Still, an interesting offering.....and I thank you!
