My Fridays night ask me a difficult question thread.
Sorry for how late it is people! (It was worth it)

Be serious, and no asking about intentionally way-to-arcane things like "What is time like inside the event horizon of a black hole"

But anyway, any problems at all, no matter how difficult. Tortuous life decision? Want to know why someone does/won't do something? Ask me anything!

Or we can just chat. It is fine by me. Also, you are allowed to ask mind-boggling questions, but be aware that the answer will then appear in the next weeks thread.

****NO ASKING FOR MEDICAL ADVICE****

If you don't know what you want to ask, just tell me something you wish for. Simple.

Current record: 89

1. Hey R_A
A very tough question to begin with: How far will Australia come in the World Cup?

I am not a fan of soccer myself but I enjoy watching the World Cup.

4. Rest assured, if the Aussies get far, then I will watch, in fact it is one
of two things I really want to watch, the other is that some friends are going to be in TV because of a program about smart people.

15. sorry, I am too modest, despite these STRANGE pm's I have been
recieving to the contrary.

(Involved the words (from someone I have hardly seen on DU) "You just condescendingly SNAP your fingers and expect people to obey your commands for your petty enjoyment" So I'm like, uh, that's nice, when have I ever commanded people?)

I answered.

So what are your plans for the weekend?

They have a World Cup show here in Frankfurt this weekend. I probably will go with a friend. Different countries are representing themselves with music and food and then there is a lightshow with music. They want to use our skyline as background for pictures.

28. Clean and work is my plans for the weekend, I had parties the past two
days so it is ok. (3 3/4 hours of dancing straight on Thursday)

Hope the World Cup Show goes well. It sounds lovely.

29. What music are you listening to?
Cleaning my apt and washing clothes are chores that I need to accomplish this weekend myself also. Ack, why does an apt gets so messy so soon when I am the only one living there?

30. Strauss 'The Planets' (just one as I am tired)
The apt gets messy faster, I guess, because you don't want it to be messy for the other who is living there, so you set higher standards than you do for yourself AND/OR are more motivated to clean when they are there.

The alternative would be a secret that I would do well to keep. (A nice one)

31. I live by myself
there is no one else. Of course I clean up more when I get visitors but I also clean up for myself.

And what is the alternative? Having someone else doing it? My apt is too small for that.

32. Whoops! Different interpretation of "Ack, why does an apt gets so messy so
soon when I am the only one living there"

Anyway, this changes everything.

So, by yourself, gets messy quick....
Hmmmmmm, not quite as much my speciality; the best thing to do is watch & work out what creates mess the most OFTEN. That is my guess anyway.

35. That's cool, you only clean to keep a life in which you are happy, so
making yourself unhappy for the sake of cleanliness is not something you ought to pursue.

Have a nice day, almost beddy-byes.

9. Is eternity simply the stretching of time to the infinte,
the squashing of time to the infinitesimal, or a concept not actually related to time?

Random_Australian Donating Member (1000+ posts) Send PM | Profile | Ignore Fri Jun-02-06 06:17 AM

11. Eternity taken from the point of view who believes such a thing exists
Must be:
A) You may progress through it, such that while experiencing eternity, you are not in some static state; and
B) It must never end.

Therefore eternity is a sum of an infinite number of finite sections of time.

Eternity expressed as an infinitesmal implies that some finite time elapses, in which this infinite number of states happen, which can only happen if you can add together enough of these states such that they equal a finite time; therefore each is not simply stationary, they are also changing, like dericatives in math, and can be dealt with accordingly.

That was the quick version.

14. The democratic process works as an algorithm, the person who leads
is the person who gets the most votes.
The person who gets the most votes is the person the most people voted for.
To cut a long and tedious story short, we all gradually choose bastards of genuinely competent people.

These pricks fuck it all up, but there is no big conspiracy.

Whose agenda? Every person has there own agenda; therefore the agenda that is bieng carried out on the people of the world is the agenda of whoever is in power.

Who are greedy powersluts, pretty much.

And to cut an even longer and somehow more tedious story short, capitalism helped for a while, but it is going through the same selection process with "who makes the most money" instead of votes, so they are growing in power and are going to screw us all over.

18. You liked their attitude, you liked the way they presented themselves to
the world, and most of all you liked the way they treat others. Your standards for these three pick dems up much more often than repubs, even though they make no mention of politics.

36. Why shouldn't he? It gives him + friends money, power, he has learnt
not to care about the little guy, and is making the most logical decisions. He wants some need to be fulfilled, for some reason he can't do it (I would hazard a guess at "he does not know what it is") that he thinks will be solved by more money and power.

And the selection mechanism for democracy eventually picks media pricks over people who are actually competent.

It was bound to happen eventually.
