Ok, so I don't have a lawn. I do have a little porch out back where I put out some flowers and plants--you know, to class up the joint. This morning I went out to check on them and what do I see? Why, it's my nice big flower pot flipped over on the porch, knocked off its stand by a wayward basketball.

Damn kids!

Oh well. The flowers are ok and at least it didn't get tossed into my apartment window or, god forbid, the boy's car windows. (Hi honey, welcome home. Remember how your car used to have windows? Funny story...)

Also, some lucky kid gets a free basketball because, (and keep in mind I was barely awake), I tossed the thing out back from whence it came. So, that makes it a good deed of sorts, right? Sure it does.

7. Kids with basketballs and skateboards don't bother me

I prefer them over the ones that steal and play with guns instead. I remember being a kid myself and needing something to do. A kid accidentally knocking over my plants playing basketball versus putting a pipe bomb in my mailbox is definitely more preferable to me.

9. Oh, I know. I know. It's not a big deal.

It was just an odd thing to wake up and see. And I wanted to say "Get offa mah lawn!" because I so rarely get to do it.

But all in all, it's just a minor annoyance to whine about for a little bit while I drink coffee and try to wake up.

13. Some people might even get upset about things like this....

It happened in my yard Sunday during some bad storms but believe it or not I'm actually very optimistic as no one was hurt. My boss lost his brother-in-law during the same storm as he was hooked up to some type of medical machine that failed when the power went out and he and his wife couldn't figure out how to turn on the auxiliary power for it. It caused a bad reaction in his system and he passed away before rescue or another family member could get there. Made this problem of mine seem quite trivial.

10. Ha! I've been there.

Our landlord's kid is always playing volleyball--or basketball! Crap! Watch--it was that kid's ball and now I'm going to have to replace it or something. Damnit--in our parking lot and more than once I've caught her when it bounced off the back of the boyfriend's car. So far all it's taken for her to knock it off is me walking out on the porch and giving her The Look.
She's like 14 though and there's a playground half a block away. She really should know better.

The day I say "I'm going to have a word with your mother" is the day I'll really feel old. Probably sometime later this summer.
