All cottonwood trees must be destroyed! Who's with me?
They've shed so much fluff that it looks like it has snowed and I'm completely miserable.

My allergies/asthma are making me so miserable -- and that's AFTER the Singulair, Advair, Allegra D-12, Flonase and a hit of albuterol. I've been snotting and wheezing all night after being stupid enough to cycle 25 miles earlier in the day.

I was fine then, but I'm really paying the price now.

Sorry for the whine, but I'm stuck at work. I don't know who's sorrier -- me or my co-workers who have had to listen to me sneeze and blow my nose all night long. I'm not leaving the safety of my sealed, AC house tomorrow.

So, what's the purpose of those stupid cottonwood trees anyway? Who would want them? The make such a mess. Destroy them all.

1. I feel your pain...allergy hell here too
The latest manifestation is that my eyes are red and watering yellowy tears, which I suspect might be an opportunistic infection that I'll have to go to the doctor about. Ugh.

4. Probably
Clear is good. Yellowy discharge usually means an infection.

My eyes aren't bad from allergies. They usually don't bother me.

10. I have the whole range of crummy symptoms
Stuffy/runny nose, angry sinuses, a cough, a sore throat, and now my eyes are affected. :-( Normally I only get the nasal/sinus/cough symptoms, but this year it's particularly bad. Already had two bouts of opportunistic sinus infections.

11. We had a giant one in the back yard of a house I grew up in.
It would rain it's "cotton" for blocks around.

When it blew down in a wind storm, it fell across three back yards.

Years later I found out someone at the monument business across the alley had poured root killer around it's base.

I liked that tree.

I guess they were tired of cleaning up it's "cotton".

3. Destroy Our State Tree?
NEBRASKA STATE TREE

Eastern Cottonwood

Cottonwood (Populus deltoides) is the Nebraska state tree. It is native across the state and usually is found adjacent to rivers, streams, and around lakes. Cottonwood has a fast growth rate and provides most of the lumber processed in Nebraska today. It is planted in riparian areas for filter strips, and near streams to reduce sedimentation and stabilize stream banks. It also can be used in multiple row windbreaks for height and quick protection.

13. That stuff stopped being strong enough
Edited on Tue May-30-06 08:34 AM by prolesunited
about five years ago. Thankfully, it's only been bad for a short time. And we were in Vegas for nearly a week about a week ago.

14. If you haven't tried a "Neti pot" I'd recommend you think
about trying it out.

I have had bad allergies since moving to Ohio, I had the first really bad season last year and ended up with several bad sinus infections.

This year I have had none and I have taken a dose of allergy meds only twice this year. The pot cost around $10-$20 and the salt is minimal. I know we all react differently but that little pot has really helped tremendously.

15. I HATE COTTONWOOD
There is "snow" all over the neighborhood. We have four trees, and I am tempted to nail some copper spikes into them. Every year it is the same thing. White puffs everywhere!
AGGHHH!

17. Thanks, but not really
And I haven't been out since last night. :-(

Maybe the afternoon tropical storms will wash it away.

18. I love the garden but I always suffer later or the next day -
it's a dilemna. I can't stand being in the house too long, so I just keep taking the Loratadine and am also keeping the kleenex industry in business.
