6. And what you see this season is 'safer' than last
If you watched it last year you know they used to work under a 'derby' system that essentially gave the captains every incentive to take every risk they could to bring in as much crab as they could.
Now they are alloted quotas so it's much safer for the deck hands. It was a controversial move and I'm not without sympathy for those who were against it but still I'm thinking if I'm a deckhand the quota system is better (even if it became harder to get a job as a deckhand after that)
I'm a big fan. I don't like crab in fact I don't eat seafood as a general rule (just a matter of taste preference) but after seeing how hard these guys work I feel like I should have some crab. :)
If we do it at a restaurant, it's one thing, but if we make it at home, we're like friggin animals. Crab bits flying everywhere. My pre-teen daughter is worse than my wife and I put together.
