Official Boston Red Sox Bandwagon Sign Up
After a thrilling series win over the vaunted Yankees, I think it's time to get the bandwagon up and running. Long time fans are asked to board first.

Application:

1. What is Jim Lonborg's Other Career?
2. 1 4 9 8 27 name 'em
3. Before Fenway they played at?
4. Without HIS Heroic Home Run Fisk wouldn't have had a chance to hit his famous shot.
5. "I'm going to the Elliot Lounge" after losing game 7 of the 1975 WS who said it?
a. Fred Lynn
b. Don Aase
c. Bill Lee
d. Carl Yaztremski
6. Before the Green Monster existed there was another feature on the third base line which no longer exists. What was it called?
7. Who was it named for?
8. All time dream Sox Outfield? No one correct answer.

8. not too bad for a non fan,
I get my haircut at the same place as John Pesky. I will have to tell him you think his number should have been retired.

He'll say something along the lines of "have you been drinking"

9. Well, he's got that foul pole named after him!
Why is it a foul pole if it is fair territory?

I should have gotten extra points for knowing his real last name. I read "Summer of '49" - a great book! Ed Lopat's (known by Ted Williams as "That F*cking Lopat) real last name is Lopatynski.

Can't believe I didn't get Joe Cronin. D'oh!

10. Paveskovich eh? I didnt know that.
The guy hit FIVE home runs at fenway but one when Mel Parnell was pitching and it gave him the win when it wrapped around the pole. Hence the name.

12. Wanna start an old-time Red Sox fan rant??
"The immortal Denny Galehouse."

Galehouse was picked to start the one game playoff with the Yankees in 1949. Mel Parnell would have been a much better choice, but Joe McCarthy wanted someone experienced to make the start.

You should read "Summer of '49" by David Halberstam. A good book, even if (for you) the ending sucks. :-)

13. at least the ending isnt a surprise.
I know that the sportswriters still talk about that decision. It was well before my time so it doesnt really hurt me.

More recently Jimy Williams pitched Pete Schoureck in Game 4 of the ALDS 1998 instead of Pedro on three days rest. The Bullpen blew the game and Jimy nearly pulled off the smartest gamble of all time. Instead many still hate him for it.

Lets see, 1986, Bob Stanley had Knight picked off second but didn't see him, then throws a wild pitch.

Clemens and his blister. I think he asked out of the game, others think John MacNamara made the decision. Who knows for sure?

1990 Clemens tells Terry Cooney "put your mask back on and I know where you live" in the first inning of game three. series over.

etc etc etc.

17. I can't imagine what it is like to be a Sox or Cubs fan.
At least my team, the Cardinals, have been to 4 World Series in my lifetime, although I was but months old for 1968 vs. the Tigers. (I could claim that I was alive for 5, but I was only a month-old fetus for the 1967 Series against, um, somebody....)

20. I've been to one WS Game.
several playoff match ups and no joy.

I was a newly minted Operator of a Motor vehicle in October of 1986 and I remember how cool it was driving to My friends house to watch game 6 and how uncool it was driving home.

24. I started college that year.
Skipped class to watch the Mets/Astros series (being in Texas, it was natural).

Game 6 was wild, and I was pissed, as I disliked the Mets.

but BK doesnt exude confidence out there. He seems to shrug his shoulders and look a little uninterested. I like a troy percival rob nen type guy as a closer.

but thank god they got rid of the committee.

#6 - I think there was a hill out there. I can't remember for whom it was named. I know I could look it up but what's the fun in that!

Outfield...man, I'd have to say (for a purely selfish reason) Yaz, Reggie Smith, and Tony C. I was probably Tony Conigliaro's biggest fan. Such a shame... I think of the potential! Damn!

From 1912 to 1933, there was a 10-foot-high mound that formed an incline in front of the left field wall at Fenway park, extending from the left-field foul pole to the centerfield flag pole. As a result of the mound, a left fielder in Fenway Park had to play the entire territory running uphill. Boston's first star left fielder, Duffy Lewis, mastered the skill so well that the area became known as Duffy's Cliff.

8.My outfield would be. Tris Speaker, Fred Lynn and Yaz. with Rice and Evans in reserve

It seems like Peter Angelos doesnt have an interest in spending anything in the O's and thats too bad. Camden is the very best pro sports venue. I come down there once or twice a year.

Only have to pay Albert Belle for one more season!

31. Jumping on the bandwagon with both feet!
Saw Trot Nixon hit a grand slam on Saturday, then Bill Mueller hit two more last night. I'm a basketball fan, and I never thought baseball could be exciting but if I were going to be a hardcore baseball fan it would have to be the Red Sox 'cause I always root for underdogs.
