1. Why does it suggest you know the difference between

a black bear and a grizzly? Aren't they both dangerous?

4. Black bears aren't as dangerous. In fact, the rangers here in Maine tell

you to yell at them and wave your arms to shoo them off. From a safe distance, of course.

I would rather run into a black bear than a grizzly any day.

Basically, if you got between a mother and her cub then you have a problem, but for the most part, they'll run away from/ignore humans. They might rip into your food if you don't secure it, but they won't rip into you for food.

I've been very, very close to black bears (less than 10' once) and they've all just kind of looked at me and walked away or continued whatever they were doing.
