So, what's everyone up to today?
I am doing nothing...except waiting for my microwave nachos to be done...and then eating them. :9

So...I need ideas of what to do today...who should I imitate? :D

1. Hey Zombie
:hi:

I got so bored at work today I wrote a program to calculate the probabilities of four programmers using the same of four available methods to write a program (assuming that each method was equally good).

7. Hey billy!
Dude, that sounds like something I would do.

I may end up doing so programmin today - rebuilding the parent-child structure in my animation engine. (I had to take it apart to fix that incessant limbs-swinging-seemingly-random-places-they-shouldn't bug x().

So...what was the answer?

:hi:

11. The answers I came up with were:
The probability of all four programmers hitting on the same method is 4 in 256, or 1.5625%.

The probability of three is 48 in 256, or 18.75%.

The probability of two matching is 180 in 256, or 70.3125%.

I posted it, plus the code I wrote, here:

38. I'm not surprised
It's Oracle PL/SQL. It is extremely similar to ADA, but with SQL statements built-in.

The browser removes my indentation, which makes it much harder to read.

56. Yeah, I'm not too up on SQL stuff.
My web programming experience is basically HTML and JavaScript, since I mostly do standalone apps, I do C/C++ and Java...because programming 3D graphics on web languages is...well, rare to say the least.

61. SQL is boring. Because it's databases, which invariably means
business software. And business software is always boring. But it pays the bills. :)

My favourite language is C, by far.

71. Hooray, another C geek!
Most everyone else I know hates C but uses it anyway because it's functional.

Having never been formally trained at programming, I have just to right amount of naïvetê to make a C program do things the language isn't supposed to be able to do without crashing the computer, simply because no one ever told me. :D

I'd call it thinking outside the box, but I don't even know hwere the box is. :D

76. There is nothing C is not supposed to be able to do :)
That's what's awesome about it. It lets you do everything! If you want to write way outside your array bounds and fiddle with the operating system, well fine. :D

You can even do mad shit like this: http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/D/Duffs-device.html

83. I think I've done stuff like that.

I wrote this one app for the last year that basically turned my computer into a base-12 operated machine for the duration of the program running. Thing got me a free trip to the International Science Fair! :bounce:

I figure people who bitch about C have done something stupid that made the operating system go crazy.

You know, something like:

void ShootSelfInFoot(double stupidityFactor)
{
     return(true);
}

:D

89. Congratulations!
I haven't got time for people like those. It hasn't been a good week if I haven't crashed my computer in some ridiculous way at least once. :7

This week I was writing web stuff using Oracle PSP, which is like PHP except using PL/SQL to generate the HTML instead. I discovered that if you put an infinite loop in your program (like I did), then pressing the "stop" button on your browser does not kill the program!

What was even better was that we had no DBA to kill the process for me. I had to wait until the database ran out of memory and the session died of its own accord.

:dunce:

97. Wow...that's a classic.
Not so much the infinite loop thing because I do that all the time (force quit is my friend :7), but the fact that you had to wait for the thing to run out of memory to make it stop. (The fact that I'm laughing at this is proof positive of my nerdity).

What's "fun" is when you write a do-while loop to perfom operations on an object or Ptr that deletes itself somewhere within the loop so after one loop the thing no longer exists but the program still tries to do stuff to it so it freaks out. I do that way too much. x(

120. I'm a Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist.
Very soon now, I'm hoping to be accepted to Physician Assistant school at You-Dub Med. Physician Assisting is cool; you can make diagnoses, write prescriptions, do minor surgery, just about everything a doctor can do. It's really competitive to get in, though. This year it's predicted that 400 people will compete for 60 slots.

15. Bouncing round on the ceiling.
After several years of good and faithful service, my coffee grinder went a dash of a bit kapput (alas poor grinder I knew him well). So I went to buy a new one, and (inevitably I suppose) ended up buying a new coffee-maker toy thing. Naturally I had to try my new toys out - so I had a pot full of strong black coffee at about 6 this evening, when I wouldn't normally drink anything stronger than green-tea all afternoon.

Plus I took some cold medication which has caffeine in too.

That said, you won't be able to see - as your brain will be screwed.

Or should that be even more screwed than usual. :P

17. I'm having a pleasant day
I haven't been doing a whole lot. I got up real early and goofed off on the computer a little while. Then I caught ESPN for all the scores from yesterday.

After breakfast more goofing off on the computer until lunch when I had a nice steak dinner. Then I went to the doctor and he had good news for me. He said I'm still crazy, but he no longer feels like being armed with a gun during my sessions. That's progress, friends. I got 3 months worth of meds on one prescription sheet. I don't have to see the doc again until August after I do my blood work tomorrow.

Plans for tonight include lots of diet coke and NBA playoff basketball.

I suggest that you get your studying done and then goof off in the lounge until the basketball games come on. Be sure you have a couple of beers on hand for the games.

95. My dear ZombieNixon.......
This is nearly the first time I've sat down today!

Went to the gym this morning.....my weight is just a hair over 160 now!

I think I want to lose another 10 pounds, and then I'll reassess how I look and feel! It is amazing to be so close (finally) to my goal!

After the gym, the shower, and dress.....and then we rushed out to lunch.

Why the rush? BECAUSE.....the people who I'm donating my old car to are coming to pick her up this afternoon!

So we needed to get a move on so I'd have time to clean my stuff out of the old car before the tow-truck guy got here! Which could be any time...

So now I'm all ready for them...and finally I can sit down!

I think I'll get a nap after they come...and then later I'll shop for dinner.....

Life is good! :woohoo: :woohoo:

108. Over the phone, they seemed very nice.....
In fact, we have been unable to find the pink slip!

And I told the guy on the phone that little fact, and he was completely unfazed!

He said they'd bring a form, and that I'd need to have some sort of proof that I was actually the owner......which I am!

So if the tow-truck driver is anywhere nearly as nice as the phone guy, well, then......

NO need for anything under the door handle!

You are naughty today! But then, what else is new? :eyes:

:spank:

:loveya:

I am off today but my column is due for Sunday.
I am at the man's house. We just ate and he went up to take a nap before we head to the bar later. So during his nap time, I promised myself I would do some writing.

But what am I doing???
