I bugs me when coworkers get nosey about my food
"That smells good"

"What is that you're eating?"

"Can I look at that?"

1. It bugs me when coworkers have smelly food!
Especially if it contains seafood, to which I am allergic. Nothing bothers me more than someone's horrible fishy smelling lunch.

4. Seafood is nasty!
Also, so is McDonald's. Then you'll get someone who makes popcorn. mmmmmm.

10. Because they are idiots!
They will set the microwave to 5 minutes and walk away from it. Burns every time!

11. Or the guy who's eating hot wings
And the smell wanders over into whatever you're eating and you can't taste your own food anymore...but that's okay because you've lost your appetite because he's snacking and smacking and slurping and licking his fingers.

In some situations it's okay...at work, especially in a place where people eat at their desks, it's just...

2. It makes me uncomfortable, too...
I don't think they mean anything by it, but I always feel like I should offer to share...

3. That annoys me too.
I also hate it when they ask what I'm reading and then want a plot summary. Mind your own business, dammit!

6. Where I work it always seems to be part of the uncomfortable
kitchen small-talk.

"Oh what type of soup is that?" being code for "we have to share this small space whilst we both make our lunch, we don't like each other, but we've got to pretend that we do because we're English and thus hypocrasy is far preferable to honesty in these circumstances."

Right up there with - 'oh that coffee smells good', or 'did you have a good week-end?'

9. My co-workers are always curious as to what I am eating
since I am a vegetarian. They think I exist on salad, beans and tofu.

13. I have an even more annoying coworker
We usually go out as a group once a week to lunch. If there is food left on your plate, this coworker will ask if she can have it. Then she will proceed to scrape your leftovers into a carry-out box. She will do this with as many people as will let her, and take the food home to her son and husband. So we are basically paying to feed her freakin' family. I always say no, of course, but some people are too nice to refuse her.

Oh, and it's not like this woman isn't making good money. She's probably making about $30 an hour.

18. She also is a noisy eater/drinker
She slurps 10 cups of coffee a day (no lie) and uses the real plates and utensils from the kitchen for her food she brings (why not just leave it in the gladware?). She scrapes her fork against the plate over and over and OVER! Oh, and did I mention she seems to like to take a nap every Friday afternoon and SNORES. When she's not sleeping or eating, she's on the internet most of the time.

20. That's the most revolting thing I've ever heard.
Seriously. I would NEVER take someone else's leftovers home with me from a restaurant, unless they were my husband's. Even then, I'd probably just let him eat them later. Just thinking about your co-worker is grossing me out. This is fairly horrifying restaurant behavior.

16. Or the coworkers who want to take all your cash and pay with a card
so that they can get frequent flier miles? PET PEEVE.

17. My coworkers are an impediment to my recovery
I have been doing great with my food plan except at work. I only have fifteen minutes to eat anyway. The they are always making comments about food and dieting. They are commenting on what everyone is eating too. I am really having a hard time eating at work now. Now that it is nicer, I am thinking about taking my food to my car during break.

19. Can I look at it?
They actually say that?

I am this way about stuff. I hate to hear people eating. I hate anyone near my food. Don't get near my food.

Don't get near me when I am near my food. Especially don't come up behind me when I am near my food.

It makes me feel sick, I don't know why

I am getting worse as I get older. One new and weird development, unrelated to food:
I can't stand to watch people kiss on tv. It grosses me out. Germs. I have to cover my eyes. I never used to be this way. But if that food thing were happening with me at work, I'd go insane. There is something about that kind of stuff that brings out the psycho in me. If I were a pit bull they'd call it hoarding or something. But as a human you are sposed to be polite. Around my food, it's all I can manage.
