1. Mixed feelings here
If he was fired just for this year's collapse- not fair. Not his fault Vick got hurt- just proves how much he is needed to make the Falcons go, and how much someone else needs to step up and lead.

If it was for past misdeeds and playoff failures- eh. I've seen a lot worse.

As for the choice of Wade Phillips- the man that dismantled the Bills ? Great plan- NOT. :eyes:

5. He is not Atlanta's final choice
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 10:05 AM by VermontDem2004
He is the head coach for the final 3 games, the off season ATL will pick up another coach.

7. I thought Reeves did a good job of handling and protecting Vick
I think everyone knew he was going to be fired I guess they let him have one more win and then fired him. Wade Phillips? Oh brother.

Well that is easily going to be the most sought after coaching job-great Qb, need help on defense, great owner, fans are really into it, Atlanta is a favorite for a lot of players so free agents will be very willing to play there.

8. Related note-Army HIRES Bobby Ross
Or as he is known around here "Bobby Ross from Benedictine High School". I think this is a very good fit, Ross is a VMI grad with two sons who have graduated from service academys and he coached at the Citadel.

BTW- Benedictine is only a few blocks from my house, it is a Catholic military school....geez talk about guilt and punishment!

http://www4.army.mil/ocpa/read.php?story_id_key=5488

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Army News Service, Dec. 9. 2003) -- The leadership at the U.S. Military Academy announced the hiring of Bobby Ross Dec. 9 as the Black Knights' new head football coach.

Ross began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater in 1965 following his time in the Army. He went on to serve assistant coaching stints at William & Mary, Rice and Maryland before accepting his first head-coaching job at The Citadel in 1973. He spent four years as an assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs (1978-81) before returning to the collegiate ranks as head coach at Maryland.

The spirit of West Point really appealed to me," Ross said. "My background has a military tone."

Ross' two sons graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and Naval Academy respectively, and he served three years as a lieutenant in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.

12. I don't want Jimmy Johnson tho
Who else is out there?

Hasn't Maurice Carthon been an assistant coach? What about Pepper Johnson, hasn't he been working for Bill Belecheck?

13. Nick Saban from LSU might join the Pro Ranks after this season
But I think he would go to ATL, plus Fassell isn't bad. They could've won more games if it wasn't mental errors by the players, one example kicking it out of bounds against Dallas in that Monday Night Game. There are others.

14. mental toughness is something the coach has to inspire
that's why Parcells succeeds everywhere he goes.

Fassell got too soft with his players. He should have sat Ticki Barber's ass down.

16. Not really
The players have to execute. But in cases like this the coach is getting way too much blame, Tiki needs to hold on to that ball, he can do it, he has been playing football his whole life. A kicker should be able to kick the ball atleast 50 yards foward and inside the field of play on kickoffs. They lost a lot of close games, a few of those games happen to go the other way they would be a playoff team but that is football. Vermiel is what you might consider "soft" on his players and have consistently given players second chances but they play hard for him and don't make too many mental errors. But I would give Fassell one more year, he did lead this team to the Super Bowl and the playoffs last year. But New York could use a change.

17. The Giants future DOESN'T hold a last place schedule like 2 years ago
Fassel got them to the Superbowl but has been scratchy and clawing since then.

11. Reeves has screwed up a bunch, IMO.
I like the guy- seems like a decent person. But he had this incredibly complicated playbook, and it took him forever to realize that rookie Vick would not be able to absorb the whole thing right away and to simplify and then gradually add to it.

Last Sunday's game was typical, too.
- Go for it on 4th down in the first quarter? What's the point?
- TJ Duckett runs great straight ahead, but he needs a hole. So they constantly try to run him straight ahead when he's the only back and everybody in the stadium knows he's getting the ball?
- Several screen passes when the opposing defensive line isn't rushing?
- Calls Peerless Price's number twice a game? Please.

15. is Atlanta considering Dennis Green?
I think they should. Like him as a h/c or not, D. Green really does know how to let offensive players play to their maximum potential. If they bring him in, Green could make Vick and company real dangerous.

Of course, Green's defenses are known to suffer at the expense of an offensive focus ... I'm just saying the guy should be considered.

18. Dennis Green is a great coach
Despite that one terrible season in Minnesota, I still scratch my head at the fact they let him go. But I am not sure, does Green want to go back into coaching? There are quite a few candidates out there, I hope no team does but Gary Kubiak could be a wise choice as a head coach. He has been an excellent offensive cordinater for the Broncos the last 8 years, he may be considered as an option for Head Coach. But I hope he stays with the Broncos.

19. I don't want to see Gary Kubiak go..
He's really good with Mike Shanahan, and if Gary Kubiak gets a job as a head coach, then more kudos to him, and he deserves it. He has made the Broncos an excellent total offensive team (#1 in rushing and somewhere in the top 16 for passing), and with Plummer at QB, I think the Broncos can stay competitive for time being. I just hope Pat Bowlen will offer Kubiak a long-term contract to stay as an offensive coordinator, although Kubiak has been getting a lot of offers for head coaching position, and yes, he deserves it. Yes, he has worked with Reeves before, but is very fond of Shanahan (former QB coach, while Kubiak was a backup QB for Elway, he has learned a lot from him)
