The good guys won
We live in a world where America is screaming a scream that few hear. A world where the young men and women come back in coffins. A world where children get blown apart, but some don't grieve because they are the wrong colour. When I see suffering, I see suffering. A world where an idiot comes closest to any definition of evil I ever knew. We're human, we want to see the pins fall, and yet we've become so used to deceit, so much so that we lash at one another, brothers insult brothers in this need that divides us. We're the good guys. Don't ever forget that. No matter what happens. No matter where we're born, or what we believe, or what colour we are. To be good does not mean moral nor does it need religion. Good comes from common sense. From warmth. From this 'lounge' where people come together, in celebration, in loneliness, in fun, in life, in fear, seeking hope in laughter and shared pain, and questions, and in kindness. That is what liberal means, and no one can distort that, truly. Those who try are bullies in the schoolyard, no more no less. Bullies always fall. This life, this America, is threatened by a madman who is no more Christian than a stone is. So we see all the horror in this world, but in truth, nothing separates us. We just haven't worked that out yet. Our odds are quite frankly, lousy. If certain people finally feel justice as a flame that laps at their feet, they still may get away. We still may lose. It may be far too late for some to realize what is going on.
So where does that all lead? Tonight Ladyship and I watched Amazing Race. (between turning back and forth desperately to see what was happening on LOST, heh ) The good guys won. "Hippies" Two complete fools, who saw good in just about everyone, who played, who clearly were already winners in their behaviour toward others in this world, who were funny, and warm, and caring. They won. My wife and I cried from joy. So few good guys win in this world now. So few. Don't ever forget that we are the good guys. Life is way too short for this. Go do cat threads. Go hug. Go preach. Go tie up a duck. Go bake something. Go attempt to do a sex thread without it being a sex thread, grin. Fight the good fight, don't fight one another.

Mr. Ladyship (off to see what the hell happened on LOST by reading LOST forums! And congrats, Hippies )

1. The "hippies" who won Amazing Race were not "complete fools".

They were the only team who consistently showed not just respect but enjoyment of other cultures during the "race".

Contrary to the behavior of all but the token "black couple" team (who came in a respectable third), who universally behaved boorishly towards the other cultures they uncomfortably found themselves in.

And why the fuck would any critically thinking American who has followed this show wonder about the recent poll showing that most foreigners don't like our behavior abroad?

We are truly a disgusting race of people at this time in history, exascerbated one million-fold by the Bush policies since early 2001, long before 9-11.
