There are many much more effective ways to measure linguistic typologies.

But they involve a much greater level of nerdity.

I played around with the answers trying to figure out what is "Dixie" about me, and I couldn't figure it out.

Crud. I worked hard to get the midwest out of me (though it will never fully leave), but to be saddled with some part of Dixie? What the fuck?

42. D'oh!!
I think "saddled with" is more western, or at least farmer, though. All my aunts and uncles were farmers as children, and all had horses, not tractors (in the midwest).

My parents were big country and western fans, though, and so I grew up watching those ignorant fucks on hee haw and seeing them in concert, and I know that, even though I grew up "way up north", I had a lot of ignorant dixie influences through the TV and country-western music.

36. Irrespective of the quiz, I speak fluent Brooklyn.
But I do this only in the home.

My kids have to go to speech class because they say "dis" instead of "this."

I consider this cultural imperialism, but I have to accept it or else face dire consequences. Like so many other people I have to subsume my culture and assimilate, although secretly I am unhappy about it and trying to perserve my culture in little ways.

Youse guys don't no nutin' about what da fuck it's like.

It's funny since I learned my "English" in rural North Carolina and I lived there for 15 years before I moved to NYC, where I lived for the past 4 years.

What Kind of American English Do You Speak?
http://www.blogthings.com/whatkindofamericanenglishdoyouspeakquiz/

Actually, my only 40% Dixie may be because I have more of an Inland South (i.e. Ridge and Valley, Cumberland Platuea, Appalachian Mountains) accent. All of my family is from the mountains and upper Piedmont areas of the Southeast.

I have no idea where the 5% Yankee came from. Ive been to NYC twice and Washington DC twice. That's as far north as I've ever ventured. I did go to Chicago once, but that's in the midwest.
