What movie would you like to see re-made?
I'll go first - Gone With the Wind - but only if Spike Lee directs!

1. Nothing.
I want them to make something original for once! Not based on a book. Not based on another movie. Not based on comics books. Not based on a true story. Original. Idea. Please. x(

And that was my short rant for the day. :P

But there is originality, and there is plain laziness. Hollywood has seemed to be fine with the latter for years now.

14. True... True...
I'm also kind of tired of all of the spin offs.

It's gotten hard to even think of "original movies"... For the sake of this
discussion I'm only counting "original movies" as those which may have been
based on a relatively unknown book. Not those based on a popular best selling
tome.

17. I guess I don't mind a movie based on a book I haven't read
but if I've read a book, I tend to really despise the movie. I probably won't see this Da Vinci Code 'til it comes out on DVD.

2. It might be interesting to see a remake of "Network"
It was and still is a brilliant film. But it might be interesting to get some perspectives of television and corporate interests today.

But the talent in front and behind the cameras would have to be just as good as the original.

Tighten up the story a bit, especially the ending... Better editing...
Otherwise, it'd be good.

We've only had one real definitive D-Day movie in the last 5-10 years and I loved Saving Private Ryan but I'd like to see a film that tells the whole Operation Overlord story, I realized Saving Private Ryan wasn't intending to do this but I'd love a D-Day epic.

13. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and go with the Books this time.
It might be more practical to do it as a thirty minute T.V. show (sort of like the original T.V. version). It has to be many hours long to work in all the bits that are actually charming, etc. Now, I can stand some updates....like cell phones and ipods for digital watches....but please stick to the original spirit of the piece. Bring back the original Marvin while you're at it!

32. Alien 3
with someone of David Fincher's calibre (if not himself, but that's really never going to happen) at the helm free from any studio interference. (Or it could be "remade" using the original William Gibson script or the original monastry concept.)

But I am in agreement that remakes are generally a bad idea, especially this current trend of remaking films that are less than 20 years old, or foreign stuff that just came out (people working on OldBoy US - I'm talking to you).

34. Enemy Mine
I actually like the original fairly well but if they remade it as a trilogy more true to the books it would be an incredible and much more moving story with much more interesting characters.

I thought about "Forbidden Planet", I'm sure an update in special effects would make for a spectacular modern movie but I think I'd rather let that classic stand alone without any remakes.

43. Only shitty movies should be remade.
Obviously, they were poorly made in the first place and need a revanmping. Good movies need no improvement so why remake them. Case in point.......The Poseidon Adventure. It was a great movie. Gene Hackman was great. There is no need to remake it with Kurt Russle and rename it "Poseidon." It cannot outdo the original and is, therefore, destined to fail.

52. That's so untrue
You're assuming that a re-make improves on the original. That's a rare occurrance. Re-makes usually are poor attempts to improve something that was wasn't broke to start with. No. Not an attempt to improve. I guess it's an attempt to squeeze more money out of the name recognition of the original.

This week I posted my comments about the new version of The Producers. They should have stopped with the stage version. The new movie bites.

If it's worth re-making, it's worth seeing in its original form, and NOT re-making.
